I just got off the phone with my sister in law, she told me to look at the skies right now and see these weird flashes of lights and what appears to be bright fireballs in the sky, she said it's coming from different directions. I went outside but I could not get a visual because we have so many trees around. If anybody in Missouri right now seeing these please post your opinion on what could this be.

She was pretty much amazed and kinda scared when she was talking to me on the phone, her husband is with her right now and watching too. The whole time I was at the phone with her she kept on saying, "there it is again!".

I told her it could be a meteor shower but she said it is weird because it didn't look like anything she had seen before, specially they were coming from different directions.

Sorry for my english. I hope any member here from Missouri could go out now and see what's up.

I hope I posted this on the right category, Mods please move it if its in the wrong category. Thanks.

She's seeing it from Holts Summit, it's about 10 miles from Jefferson City. I told her that too, that it might just be thunderstorms, but the reason she called me is because of those fireballs from different directions, as if they were falling stars but only they were brighter than anything she had seen and that it appears to be beyond the stars. I wish I could see it to verify it my self.

There are several members from Missouri, but it would help to know what part of Missouri to be looking at. I've been out and not noticed anything unusual,,,, yet.

I live 70 miles west of Holts Summit. Clear skies, VERY humid, nothing else but a beautiful half moon.

In middle Jefferson County and here is my phone video. Not the best quality but IPhone 4's don't have a great night cam.

Looks like heat lightening to me. Very muggy outside.

I think the flashes of light were from thunderstorm, although there's no way for me to verify that right now. I am just basing it on her description. But the fireballs, I don't know what it could be. It could be something that has to do with the weather.

Could be a very rare (almost unheard-of) case of high altitude ball lightning. If it is, she should find some way to record it...because that would be historic. Even if it's something else, it would be great to have video or photographic evidence to go by. If possible.

Can't wait to see your observation. What perspective in MO are you in coordinate to the OP?

Nothing special here, just the usual black helicopters and UFO's and stuff like that. I thought I saw a Gnome the other day though. Turned out it was just an unemployed dwarf holding a sign saying "no job too small".

That's what I told her, she said she tried on her cellphone and waited for that "fireball" but it was very faint like it was nothing, but when she's looking at it, she can see it very clear. Man, I wish I could see it, I always wanted to see stuffs like that, I have not even seen an Aurora in my life.

She just called me on the phone again, she said the fireballs have stopped. She's in Holts Summit, MO. and she said she saw it towards north east.

i saw the flashes. at first they were random in the sky, but all north. there is a small stormy patch on the radar just coming out of nebraska. i live north of kansas city. the only heat lightning that i've ever seen (for sure) was the orange heat lightning that strikes over KC herself in the muggy dog days and nights. so, i don't actually know what color heat lightning looks like outside of KC. we always assumed it was orange because of the pollution/exhaust. so i'm sorry if i'm limited in my experiences there. i didn't see any fireballs however. i did keep seeing blurs in the sky but that could have been my eyes playing tricks on me.

and as for the 'behind the stars' comment...

the lightning does appear to be strange looking. its extremely brief, even for lightning, it doesn't light up much of the sky, and it is intenseley white and clear, very pure looking. its striking above clouds facing north, so its probably part of that cell, but there is still an eeriness to the flashes. a mile away from our neighborhood is a trailer park and their dogs were goin wild and i heard lots of women and kids screaming. then again, it is a trailer park. sorry for the generalization haha ( i grew up in one, i know how it can be).

To me it's what I would call heat lightening. Stranger than normal for me in how slow it seems (for lightening). You get some good flashes but there is a lot of bolt lightening between the clouds, and it seems like it's running through molasses. Pretty neat looking. Glad I didn't go to bed on time tonight.

Lightening is all I'm seeing from storms just East of me. I've been outside all night and haven't seen anything other than that.
