I really wish these people would be held criminally responsible for acts of incompetency. I recently became aware of the fact that a prosecutor can willfully withhold evidence that exonerates a defendent. What possible use could this law be for??

From the link:

On Sunday, July 10, beginning around 1:30 a.m., Eric complained he had a severe headache, and began hallucinating that an imaginary person was on top of him. He had been throwing up for hours as guards sought “guidance” from a different nurse who did not answer her phone. Records say lockup supervisors and the facility’s superintendent instructed staff not to call 911.

I wonder what was the cause of death?

Not being familiar with marijuana myself, the below doesn't seem consistent with its effects:

I wonder if he could've been on something else, as well.

While I disagree with not calling for medical help, how many times, I wonder, have they had someone yelling and carrying on just like this guy did, but just for attention? I guess this police department has had them do it so many times they're jaded. The wolf was real this time. I feel for the kid's family.

I went to Florida once for a visit and I will never do that again. I couldn't the place th entire time I wa there. These reports only confirm the way I felt and the decision I made. Florida has always known to be corrupt and not care about the people in that state unless they are the rich and famous.

Hey Man! Thanks for posting this. For us guys who know the score it is always good to be informed about these abuses of the youth.

I just read the article you linked to! Well, what is there to say about this? It is just a recurring nightmare of what authority is really like in its treatment of young Afro AMERICANS!

This young man, yeah he was a bit naughty, but no naughtier than any of us really and they allowed him to die while in their custody and CARE.

It seems none of the earlier protocols that were supposed to be introduced were actually acted upon. How can this be tolerated? It disgusts me. The nurse did not even answer the phone. No paramedics called in.

More to the point, what the hell happened in that cell for someone who had just burnt a spliff 3 hours before to wind up dead in that cell?

Is it all deliberate? Are there hidden unspoken rules of just leaving young men to die because they are deemed a problem.

What's happening America? I am watching you fall apart from here. So sad, so sad!

RIP, young brother. God rest your soul and may those lousy people who were supposed to look after you get their just karma deserts for this.

Not just wonder what caused his death but also why refuse to help him.

The person that said no to medical aid should be charged with murder. Its not like the guy just died in his sleep. He was asking for help.

I don't want to freely admit how I know, but that was definitely NOT the effect of marijuana, even in large quantities. I do not believe "one hit" would do that to anyone, let alone a first-time user. He may have overdosed on something else entirely, or this stuff was laced with something far more potent.

I'm almost wondering if they fed him while he was in there and he somehow conjured food poisoning? Being behind bars once myself (unintentionally, details are withheld), I know personally that they don't care much about the food they serve, having been given moldy bread on more than one occasion. Their sandwich meat is often questionable, making it easy for one to go long periods of time without actually eating.

Either way, he was asking for help and should not have been denied. Anyone throwing up should be the first sign of something wrong, let alone hallucinations and the like. The judicial system in Florida needs a step up, hopefully they take this as a lesson learned for next time.

And I do agree, the person denying proper care in a situation as dire as that should be charged with manslaughter.

So very wrong.

I've just had two threads DELETED for no apparent reason.

No apparent reason? Are you admitting to not reading the ATS Terms and Conditions that you agreed to when you signed up here? It explicitly states:

16e.) Illicit Activity: Discussion of illicit activities, specifically the use of mind-altering drugs & substances... are strictly forbidden. You will also not link to sites or online content that contains discussion or advocacy of such material. Any Post mentioning or advocating personal use of illicit mind-altering drugs will result in immediate account termination.

i) Narcotics and illicit mind-altering substances: Due to abuse of the subject matter by some (promoting various aspects of personal use, and discussing actual personal use), no new topics on this subject are allowed in any form.

Had you read those T & C's, you would've already known that you cannot make new threads about drugs, and then you wouldn't be wondering why they were deleted.

Not a conspiracy. Just a fact that you agreed to when you signed up.

So would it have been more appropriate to ask a simple yes or no question without soliciting the "why" part of the response? No one is advocating for it. What's wrong with asking a simple yes or no question to gauge the mindset of ATS? You must admit this is censorship! People interject personal objectionable opinions all the time here that's what a forum is all about. Why would this topic be any different?

What an inconsiderate thing to say! There had to be a contributing factor aside from simple marijuana use as to why he died.

I guess medicinal marijuana users are "druggies" too?

Yes, now if we could only get rid of people who use alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and prescription medications; all of whom are also "druggies".

Marijuana has no hallucinogenic properties, if this young man was legitimately seeing something then whatever he smoked was laced with something else entirely. I can see his death being a case of extreme marijuana allergy possibly but I will not speculate further lest I violate t&c.

Not getting him help regardless of how many have cried wolf before is or should be cause for all involved officers badges; he's in custody he's your responsibility.

What part of "no discussion of illicit drugs" do you not understand? "No discussion" means don't say a word about it. Move on to a different topic.

How is it censorship? You're on a privately-owned forum, payed for by the owners out of their own pockets. It's also not censorship when you agreed to not discuss illicit drug activity on ATS in the first place when you signed up.

Don't agree to the Terms and Conditions just to sign up and post here, then cry foul when you choose to not agree with them any more.
