at least in my expierience.
i have never have a song give me such an emotional ef fect as the ode to joy. it always always always always always makes me feel, you guessed it, joy. now matter how upset i am, i always cheer up when i hear that song. especially those words: diene zauber, binden wieder, was die moden, streng getleiit! (your image reunites what custom strictly divided) it just holds this power over me. you know what i mean?

Yeah, music is a huge part of my life, especially Hip Hop. It always seems to evoke some sort emotion when I'm listening, from warm smiles to even crying sometimes. I eat, sleep and breathe Hip Hop, and in its truest form it is poetry that can feed the mind, body and soul.

HOWEVER, music can be used as a form of control. Just look at what is being played on the radio/BET/MTV! I can really only speak on the state of rap music, because I don't listen to Rock, Pop or Country. I can most definitely say that rap is the mosy abused genre or music. TPTB condition listeners so that they fall in love with rap that talks about money, women in a negative way, drinking and other materialistic oriented subject matter. Most people are being force fed this garbage and they readily stick their fork in to eat it without first seeing the ingredients! I apologize, I seem to be ranting on, I'll save it for another time.

It may hold power over you but that doesn't mean it does stuff for everyone. Music doesn't affect me at all as I don't listen to it much.

Music can be felt. I hate how some music is corrupted with negative lyrics.

Another worthless post. Your modus operandi is to just wait for people to post threads and then you just say some antagonistic BS? Seriously, nobody cares or wants to hear your pathetic attempts at countering, antagonizing, and debunking every single thread. "That's not true because I don't like it"...is that really your argument? Are you 5 years old? That might be an insult to other 5 years old that I have known. At least most of the debunkers around here have a brain and try to use facts, but your posts are worthless.

As for the topic at hand, anybody interested should check out Daniel Levitin's "This Is Your Brain On Music"...it's a fine read for musicians and laymen alike, and gives a good idea as to why and how music appreciation evolved to be such an intrinsic function of our brains.

Most of the songs I like are theme songs made for television programs, and mostly happy songs. Somehow, songs sold on the disks do not interest me much.

I have decided to limit the amount of music that I am exposed to. I do not listen to my very large collection of CDs and I do not have any radio or television on.

I have found that by living in silence my World seems a bit clearer in thought; however, I am not adverse to hearing music when I am contemplating the various videos that are created by others, and I have spent several years now working with Binaural Beats as a means to meditation.

I have in the past condemned Music as I believe that the Industry and the Kabbalistic Nature of Magik is purposely placed in music in order to "sooth" us and "illicit" the listener into accepting the ritual, yet I am still "taken" by some music quite easily.

One of my all time favorites that can get me in tears every time is Earth Song

Yeah, every time I've ever seen that guy, he's always had something negative to say. I don't see how people live like that.

I've grown up around music. My mom plays and sings locally in a band. She's met all kinds of famous people.

In high school, I listened to rap. I still do occasionally, just to put some energy in the car and bounce around with my friends. I think rap lyrics tend to be stupid, but the beats are great. But more than that, I listen to classical and christian music when I do listen to music, which is not often anymore. I, like you, prefer the silence because I can think what I want to think, and not what the radio broadcasters want me to think. So everywhere I go, I'm usually driving in silence. I turn the radio on occasionally though when I feel like listening to music but when I do its usually always something that has a positive message.

I thought his reply was on topic and valid. Is it wrong to come into a discussion with an opposing viewpoint?

being forcefed a life of debauchery? yeah i can believe that. i don't think theres a conspiracy tho. i mean those rappers(as all genres) are just singing about what they do and what interests them. but then again you've got ten year olds listening to that stuff with no idea what it means and never shot a gun. (bustahs!) strange eh?

IMO music is just a tool. If you allow it, just as any other tool to have power over you, it will have that power.

If I use the tool to get the power over me it will, if the tool is good enough, But I realize it is my own conceptual interpretation that allows me to allow it to get controle over me. If my focus is directed on something else, I just don't hear it. Exactly the same as I do not hear people talking to me when I'm in thoughts, as a matter of fact I don't see them either at that moment, senses are just used to avoid collisions lol.

But what is constant, is the influence of rhythms, but it is not needed to be music, a good factory with preferably old heavy machines will do the trick Boom takatak Boom takatak Boom tssk Or waves, water dripping if it is not to slow, a train or just your heartbeat.

music is the most important aspect of my life. without it, i would cease to be. mostly metal but also classical and blue-grass. music speaks to the soul, and it is unique for every individual.

the hypnotic droning guitars of Burzum, to the intoxicating soul wrenching wails of Urfaust. the sheer brilliance of Bach and Dvorak, or the darkened heavy handed compositions of Wagner. the innovative genius of Merle Travis' 1956 instrumental album that spawned a whole new style of playing.

i could never understand why someone wouldnt like at least some form of music. maybe they just have no soul

i love how you said all that. i feel you there. music is just incredible. taking you to other worlds inside your mind. weather its the magic of beethovens fingers guiding us along the stars or cradle of filth's screams that entice us to follow her ghost in the fog. it is just incredible. there is nothing else like it

Techno music does it for me. I love it. I love all kinds of music. Sometimes I get songs stuck in my head for like a week Then, I have to like go find that song and play it to get it out of my system. Here's the latest one that's been on my mind.

Oh yeah! The Last of the Mohicans, Legends of the Fall and Lord of the Rings. I wanted to play some of that music so badly on my violin, but I'm not that good!

Oh, these songs are sold on disks. Hmmm, I'm not sure what you mean. Jingles?

I will listen to mostly anything, but industrial/techno/electro is my thing right now. Artists like VNV Nation get me right in the middle of my chest with some songs, it's a fantastic feeling. They're also the only band who have a song that makes me cry every single time I hear it. The lyrics are very empowering to me and many others.

Death and black metal have a relaxing effect on me. It's like hearing someone else get their frustrations out releases my own. I listen to that kind of thing to get me off to sleep.
