Bomb strapped to teen girl in exclusive Sydney suburb of Mosman street

A ransom note has been found inside the house with the girl, who celebrated her 18th birthday three weeks ago, The Daily Telegraph reports.

The drama unfolded at 2.49pm this afternoon when an 18-year-old woman called police to the North Shore mansion "following the discovery of a suspicious device".

Police sources did not deny reports that the device was strapped to the woman, and while it was not clear how the device came to be strapped to her neck, it is understood she did not place it the

Wow, This is a new thing for Down under!
Saw this as breaking news on 7news, this will be an interesting story once more news devolps.

I hope they can defuse it without it being harmfull, the police havnt said much so there is no knowing what type of device it is. But with a ransom note the chances of it being real would be quite high i will assume.

I swear i've seen this in a movie once, cant remember which one though.

First thought -> this is personal. I can't imagine anyone actually doing this for ransom it seems more efficient to kidnap the girl.

I guess she will have to go a long way to give this event a place in her life..

In what world are we living when a few bucks justify traumatizing a young women for life ????
Very very sad story and absolutely terrifying. The people responsible should not even have a trial but go directly to a deep hole in the ground where they trow some leftover food in every once a while..

Who knows at this stage, no real details have beeen released as of yet.
Knowing Aussie humor it could well be a prank gone wrong.
After what just happened in Norway, it could be more complicated.
If we knew who's house and daughter it was it might help with the question of why.

But no one should have to go through something like that.

Something similar happened in the U.S. a few years back.
Here is the story:

en.wikipedia.org...

and here is the video of the bomb going off (not for everyone, but actually not incredibly graphic due to distance and video quality)

www.ebaumsworld.com...

The upcoming comedy/action movie 30 minutes or less took the entire story as a plot.

Looks to be an extorsion attempt on Gai Waterhouse.

He said they believed it was an extortion attempt and that the initial details of the situation were being conveyed to police via the girl's father.

.The girl, who is part of one of Sydney's wealthiest families is understood to be "absolutely petrified".

Police believe the ransom note is attached to her neck but bomb experts have been unable at this point to read its contents.

The street is home to racing identity Gai Waterhouse, ex-Wallaby Phil Kearns and John Eales

Yea this was the first thing that came to mind, the suspects basically used this poor pizza delivery guy to rob a bank, they strapped a bomb to his neck then told him to rob a bank or they would detonate it, then he was found and surrounded in the street and the bomb detonated, I think because he tried to remove it. Horrible. Is this about the girl an ongoing story?

What do you think the odds are that the bit about "the ransom note is believed to be strapped to her neck but so far they've been unable to read the contents" bit is a bid to buy more time. Obviously the cops know exactly what goes out in the news and the know the perpetrators will be monitoring it. I'd say they released that so the people that did it won't be as antsy as to why their demands haven't been met.

Or it could just be newsworthy down in aus.

If you think the cops here are so smart as to do something as covalent as that, you're mistaken. At least in my old age experience.

She made the 000 call (911 for you Americans) at 2:30PM and it is now 7:30PM. Not much is known there has only been one news confrence half an hour ago.

The woman is inside the house with 2 bomb squad members and 2 negotiators are present with her. The houses next to the one affected have also been evacuated.

Hmm.. that's a long time. I would guess either the bomb isn't real, shes very short on time, or the bomb collar makers are very, very confident in their design.

The first media report I heard was around 6:00-15PM, there is a reason why they have waited so long to let the media in on it, what that reason was or is ive got no idea.

It could be her and a 'friends' attempt at 15 minutes of fame, interviews, book rights, ...
We have already had the false kidnappings for attention and a foot into the celeb door.

Then again, we also have the rich ones in sydney having dubious criminal dealings that back fire and the end up shot. When you play with the devil ....

Hmmm....I don't know..... it sounds like a bored little rich girl wanted to have some fun with her friends and snooker some money from dad...

I mean, how can she not know how the bomb got strapped to her neck?

Smells fishy to me..

Wow ..thats crazy . Poor girl . This story should be interesting if we get full details. Which may not happen as the rich stick together as they are like Australian royalty and maybe they wont want their names all over the common press .

The details will be interesting as to how they got in and placed this bomb around her neck .
