Debt ceiling bill to be voted on tomorrow under congress martial law

The House Republicans aren't going to pass anything that will pass the Senate.

They are playing a game. They know there are "other" options that Obama can use if nothing gets passed. The problem is that those options will make him look like he is abusing his powers. And that is what they want him to do.

They are willing to risk the country to try to get an edge in the 2012 election.

Basically... you have to pass the bill to know what's in it.

I am of the opinion that any Congressman that votes yes in a situation like this is not fit to represent. I don't sign a contract without knowing what's in it, so why should our representatives do so on behalf of their constituants? They should vote no, and demand reasonable time to consider the legislation that is being presented. Also, why does leadership always wait til the last minute to address such high impact issues? Could it be that it is because doing so enables them to ram legislation through with provisions tacked on that wouldn't otherwise stand a chance?

Why raise or lower the debt ceiling anyways, THIS IS DUMB POLITICS. Cut off ALL the money we give to other countries that we have bases on. How come they do not talk about that? THATS ABOUT 100 BILLION OR MORE RIGHT THERE IN ONE YEAR. Get all our money back we gave out to bail bankers who gave themselves raises afterwards. How come they don't talk about that? Cut the military down some. How come they don't talk about that? Sell off some of our old weapons to other countries. OH, WAIT, THEY ALREADY DO THAT, BUT WE DO NOT SEE THE MONEY. Cut this OUTRAGEOUS SPENDING in the BLACK OPS AREAS, in the billions. How come they don't talk about that? Find out where the 2.3 trillion dollars went missing on 9/11. How come they don't do that? Find and ELIMINATE the robbers in congress, that will save us about 500,000,000 million. How come they don't do that to the budget? Why don't they cut off some of these SPECIAL PROJECTS THAT THEY HAVE GOING ON. Why don't they do something about that? I can go on and on and on and on and on and on and on, on how much money fly's out of YOU THE TAXPAYERS POCKETS, BUT NOTHING WILL GET DONE. I CAN BELITTLE YOU, PUT YOU DOWN, OFFEND YOU, PUT YOU IN JAIL, AND ROB YOU BLIND. You will do nothing, just nothing. PATHETIC. We the people are doommed and deserve so.

You are hooked on this notion that "default" is actually at risk here. It is a false assertion and will ONLY happen if the President allows it to happen. After all, the Treasury Department falls under the Executive Branch. If there is no bill passed in regards to the Debt Ceiling, Timothy Geithner, under the responsibility of President Obama will have to prioritize payments.

The historical monthly receipts of the Treasury (approx 178 billion) show us that we have enough to pay interest and security obligations (approx 30 billion). What will have to happen from there, is other obligations will have to be prioritized after that. Those are internal and have no effect on the risk of a Treasury default.

But this notion of default is false and is being used by all parties at the table to get what they want under this false crisis created by all of them. Each had their role: The Dems by not passing a budget and allowing government to run on extensions. The Repubs by sitting on their hands and crying foul, while using the opportunity to hold out. The President for pushing this whole thing and not being straightforward.

So yes, I would say the American public will be ultimately screwed, just like every other time Congress has passed bills with nary a knowledge of what is in them, or how money will be doled out, or who benefits.

But you hold onto that notion that its the evil Republicans holding those angel Democrats and the "can't touch this" President hostage. You are the target audience that all of them were hoping for and you are not alone.
