Ok so here is a question that I'm sure will get some handy answers for but let's say that someone I know had some sensitive information (for example : shot list to a corrupt documentary, blueprints for a machine or government built structure, emails sent to or from politicians.. that TPTB would NOT want to have released to the general public for obvious reasons..

What are the best ways to leak this information onto the internet without it being traced back to that person? Can it be done easily by someone that isn't a pro hacker etc?

Hopefully there are some ways to do this kind of thing as it's a really interesting thought that I had the other day and have always wondered about.

p.s. I figure this belongs in the media area of topics but if I got that wrong please re-locate to where seems fit. There may be similar topics such as this out there but I figure that this is dealing with more specific forms of media and am hoping to get responses that are tailored towards the specified examples of media that one may some day come across and want to leak.

I'd have to say, in all honesty, the way Mr. Breivick did was quite effective.

Get a massive group of online friends, or a mailing list, and release it to everyone at once.

By the time the clean up crews come, it's already out on the web and downloaded and re-uploaded by those who got it.

I can't believe Anonymous is the clean up crew this round.

Saying it will be funny to change parts and re-upload insisting that it's an unedited copy, just to bury the ones that made it out.

you go to kinkos, wear glasses a fake beard hat etc, create a fake email and fake registry to face book or whatever, and then post the material. Make sure you do this in a state that is not yours and use a bus to get to kinkos. Of course do this using kinkos computers. Enjoy

You know the government watches this site so they already have tracked you down to your location and I assume you'll be under constant surveillance now since you posted this. Expect to have your house bugged and searched and every aspect of your life scrutinized and count yourself lucky if they don't arrest you as a terrorist under the Patriot Act.

Sorry bud

I won't give you precise details but in the interests of disclosure, I will help. You have a few options. I will highlight two of them here.

1) Tell everyone as the other poster said. Put it everywhere, on everything. You will be tracked easily so you might as well include your name, how to contact you, and a message showing no intent of suicide or serious medical issues.

2) Download TOR. Get into the Deep Web. Get behind 7 proxies (half joking). Find Anonymous Operations there or track down Wikileak's Deep Web upload server and send it in. I don't mean AnonOps on the regular web or Wikileaks but if anyone has asked this question and you're not behind a proxy already or haven't' been at any point and have ANY identifying information on your computer, you might as well go with step 1.

cheers guys and yeah i doubt anyone from the gov would bother exhausting resources on someone that's just curious to how these big Anonymous-like groups operate but u never know i just figured not all of them would be hackers that do that kinda thing.

Never heard of kinkos but i guess it's an American web cafe chain right?...

do u think anti gov groups keep costumes for using places like that?

Categorically deny its existence on ATS. Then a group of people will do all they can to prove you wrong. Leak the information to them, by way of a denial. Viral in ten minutes, and the support of the usual "Well I believe the official, government story" types...That will generate even more interest, and you're off and running.

sad but true this is more likely how it's done I think the types that do it would have very warped lifestyles

makes you wonder if some ats members are linked to Anonymous ?
edit on 28-7-2011 by JaxCavalera because: (no reason given)

Here is a link to the 'Handbook for Bloggers and Cyber-Dissidents' that was put together by Reporters without Boarders. en.rsf.org...

There is some good information and tips in their to protect your security and privacy when working with sensitive information. TOR is a great tool but the biggest problem you will have is with your ISP and how you connect to the internet. Once in it gets a lot easier to remain hidden.

Yeah if you knew how the pros did it, you could write some pretty cool movies or novels. Thanks for the link will check it out.

1) get a memory stick/cd and load the data. Do this thrice.
2)load a virus designed to transfer the data to a specific site once the stick is plugged in
3)Leave the sticks/CDs outside of an office building in plain view. If possible put a 'secret' sticker on the medium.
4)Monitor the upload site and watch as human curiosity does your work for you.

That's how I'd roll if I did such things.

Thanks for the feedback guys been an interesting read and who knows a mate of mine who's writing a film about conspiracy theories may be able to adapt some of this stuff : I'll give credit where due of cause if anything came from these inspirational ideas.

Post it on 4chan with some excellent butchery of the english language so that it becomes a meme.

Encode it in various websites, and pretend it's an ARG.

--- Oh, best, not most fun.

I didn't create this method, I am merely mentioning it to you.
