ARPANET, the predecessor of the Internet

too funny "i only trust wikipedia"

en.wikipedia.org...

The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET), was the world's first operational packet switching network and the core network of a set that came to compose the global Internet.

The work of Cailliau and Lee pre-dates ARPANET ^^ If i'm not mistaken ARPANET was INtranet ,not internet

answer me honestly

do you think what everyone knows as the internet today would have been possible without the us?

gadgets and ideals are nothing without people wanting them and timing that drives any invention to frution and success.

i am not saying the us has all the credit but without us it would not exist as everyone knows it.

God no, the world wouldn't exist without you ofcourse.

I say we just replace ATS forums with a single image of an American flag we can just stare continually at while stroking our beards.

Well this clean shaven non-American is now beginning to wonder what this thread is about. Apt information is ignored for the attack on the said peoples.

Why are you blaming me? You are the ones that outsourced it to China and you are also the ones that buy them by the wheel barrow load every year.

You only have yourselves to blame, or are you blaming Europe yet again?

Lets see if you are talking about internet giants censoring the internet? then no.

The fact Americans still think the world would be in the stone-age without America is just ,well cant find the words ,the closest I can think of is sad.
The biggest inventions in the world are being developed by people from all around the world, exept well America. You know why? Because the American school system is retarded ,now i'm not saying students in America are retards, but the fact remains ,take the best university you got ,Harvard,ULC ? to give you an idea, a standard university in Europe is on a way more difficult level then those.

The brightest minds are being imported/deported( depends on who's side your on ) to America, and between us,its not because we looks better.

Who do you think the sh*t invents in DARPA ? Americans ? for Real ? *Cough Project Paperclip*

Thank god you are not the voice of America, because frankly you aren't doing your county to much pride.

FYI:

The internet, as we know it today, would not exist if it wasn't for collaboration and evolution from across the globe.

You would be hard pressed to find any 1st or 2nd world nation that has not made significant contributions to its design, implementation, and configuration.

And FYI the internet was created in America by the military in the late 20th century.....

SOOOOO.......yeah where do we go from here?

Irony, you wouldn't have the internet if it weren't for the British, we made the computer. Shove that in your troll post and smoke it!

Jamie.

And also the first internet based system was developed at UMIST university in manchester called the JANET network created to link the big universities to share large ammounts of data quickly. So Britain invented the Internet too.

If I were to sum it up neatly, it would be this:

The US isn't exactly inferior to other first-world nations. The problem is that we are not living up to our potential and the other nations mostly are. Look at Germany (or any of the Scandinavian nations). They make stuff. They contribute. And they don't piss in everybody's yards like the US does.

If the US performed to half it's potential (as it did 50 - 75 years ago, before the USD became standard), we would be an incredible superpower that would actually be admired and imitated instead of ridiculed and mocked. Maybe when we lose our USD standard status, we'll be forced to cut our military promiscuity and to make money legitimately and be respected once again.

"Why does the US attack people outside America?"
A more fundamental question, which answers might give you some insight in why not everyone embraces America.
"To bring peace and justice to the world" would seem a naive answer, or at least a very subjective one.

Try think from a different cultural perspective for a moment, change your mindset, see the bigger picture.
Instead of getting your feelings hurt and being offended by criticism, try understand it to gain a better insight in your self and national/international society.
Everyone has his truth, and those truths are all equally relative - all depending on personal perspective.
Realize the consequences (y)our outspoken individualist culture has on your world view, morals and beliefs, as opposed to someone living in a collectivist culture.

However good the intentions, trying to impose your morals and beliefs to an otherwise-minded society will always be seen as oppression, imperialism or cultural arrogance.
Then also, there's capitalism, greed, economic and ecologic exploitation, boycotts, propaganda and media manipulation, cultural decay ...

And yes, these polarizations, opposing views and misunderstandings existed well before the internet era.

Don't feel offended by my post: I don't hate.

Uhhhhhh....don't most people in the US do the exact same thing? I mean, we think our government is so much better than others' that we force it onto people ("We're gonna free the $*!T out of you!)

WWW was designed by an english guy.....Tim Berners-Lee.....the internet was invented by J.C.R. Licklider in 1961...UCLA were the first people to use it

We dont think our government is better....we know ours might be slightly better, but thats debatable. We know ours arent such war mongerers though.

I would like to ask you: when was America attacked by people outside the US?

9/11? Many people here would agree that point is clearly debatable. So what other example may you possibly have?

Is your example the attacks taking place on foreign soil? Well I would just simply say that we should not be surprised when we get shot at when we enter someone else's backyard. Isn't that just asking to be attacked?

So please, enlighten me.

That's a sadistic realization, if you think im lying there must be something wrong with you/and or you havent seen more of the internet.

The internet has nothing to do with it. It can be manipulated for whatever means necessary and can only be taken at face value. So please throw some "proof" at us.

Or is this just an attempt to discredit anyone who disagrees before one single response hit the thread?
