Just came across this.

Reports of disabled accounts had emerged by Saturday, as Google patrolled its social network for account irregularities, including violations of its “real name” policy. Google+ currently doesn’t allow pseudonyms or other nonstandard names. One victim explained what occurred: “Just happened to me- but they not only suspended gplus, but rather all google services incl gmail! The notice just said i violated TOS- nothing specific.

A Google executive, Vic Gundotra, told blogger Robert Scoble that the company was trying to ensure that obviously fake names not be used in Google+ profiles, while assuring that it will change the way it communicates with users in the future, such as with the establishment of appeals processes.”

www.thedaily.com...

not sure anyone on ATS wants their real name associated? Some thing to look into if correct.

There's a lot of that about on the net.

I will not be participating.

I come to ATS posting under anonymous and Google+ just seems too scary for me.

I have this phobia of identity theft. Sorry ATS.

I guess the bigger question to ask some of the posters here is

Do you want this site to succeed or not?

I do

I do not get my news from anywhere else as i hate msm

Anything Bill and co can do to take traffic away from msm is fine by me!

I hope that the site owners get massively rich too doing so!

Why not?

Sometimes getting your message across and offering an alternative to traditional mainstream media means you have be in the game with them..

Stop being so short sighted and look at the big picture...

Well...

We are currently working a full-featured merchandise store that will have everything from killer ATS t-shirts and jackets, to iPhone cases... maybe even skateboards. However, there will be no markup. (sorry)

We are looking at a possible multi-device app that would feature work from prominent authors in our topic-areas, the monthly subscription price is still being figured out (ATS comics is the first step). But, we're dividing all the revenue up amongst contributors. (sorry)

You're real name is only used when you create a Google+ account. Otherwise, it's never known.

No, I don't realize whatever it is you're trying to claim, as no ATS username is ever associated with the +1 click, nor any other ATS-specific data.

I understand. What I am saying is if I was in your G+ circle, Like Tom your real neighbor that you invited..etc. I would see your plus+1's. I would see that you plus+1 in threads A,b,c,d,e,f and G on ATS. I then go ATS and I investigate A thru G. The only person that has posted in ALL of those is "UsernameBOB" . "UsernameBOB" is " YOU the person who I am in a circle with, My neighbor Bill. See what I'm saying.

I particularly like the world being integrated in a safe manner. I will use +1 when I am not being anonymous.

Can you clarify will you want the ATS pages to be promoted via the personal real name profile?

It wont be zazzafrazz linking ATS pages but my real name as Google policy is to use real name profiles only. Is this correct?

See what I'm saying.

No, I don't. Primarily because lots of people post in threads, and lots of people flag threads without posting in them.

Knowing Google+. Having an account. And speaking directly with Google about how it works, what you describe seems near-impossible for ATS content... if not definitively impossible.

The MSM is a different matter entirely - I used to post anywhere between 1 and 5 stories every day on breaking news.

yeah, I'm a newshound, and you're right that you can get non-MSM news here, which is great.

I just don't post what I read anymore - and that's my choice, my issue, and no-one else's.

But yeah, ATS can be great for news - ATS is usually one of the first places to post it. Which is great. I just choose not to.

In Google+, you can choose to display your +1's, or not. Or, only show them to a circle which might be close friends and other ATS members... all other circles wouldn't see them.

However, no matter how you choose to display your +1's in Google+ (too many pluses here), they do have a slight influence on overall search returns. So, even if you never show your +1's, or even if you never get a Google+ account, your +1 clicks can help threads you like get better search returns -- anonymously.

Make sense?

I've just had a few relatively small quotes removed by mods for excessive quoting so not sure if I can quote this or not.

But there's really nothing wrong with that so long as the fundamental nature of ATS remains how it is. Personally I wouldn't sign up to premium membership and probably wouldn't buy merch(depends, I might buy in-house DVDs and documentaries if that's on the table) because, well, I'm pretty cheap!

I would buy a skateboard, but I haven't been on one for about 8 years. I'm worried if I broke out a kickflip I'd snap the board in 2 on impact

If you were to have clothing in your store I've found non-website specific stuff sells best. What i mean by that is clothing and products that you wouldn't necessarily know had anything in relation to ATS apart from being maybe conspiracy of politically themed/motivated.

I'm sure from your post that the admin and owners have been and still are thinking long and hard about it.

I'd maybe buy a t-shirt that said "I stole Schneider's fingers", just because I border on the insane

ATS Members will have the opportunity to remove the Google +1 widget in their account settings.
\

This part makes me happy.

But.....I've spent years around computers and have never had a desire to be part of a social network outside message boards. I'm not sure this will add to the site in any way. Is it about page ranks?

I like this.

...As far as the Google paranoia goes - I learned more using Google for 6 months than I did going to university for 6 years. What I'm not liking now is the censorship, and the short timeline for holding cached pages - Googles caches used to be a treasure trove of information.

Yeah ATS! Thanks guys.

This is a positive thing to do a +1. Those that are not: government workers, prophets, time travellers, aliens, gods, military top secret agents etc.
It will not affect the above. It will give a wider audience to important issues otherwise ignored by msm.
