It has been too far gone for over a year now to do anything about it... Best they can do is hold their ground and eventually agree on a plan that gives both parties things they want... Ultimately the president demands only two things, higher taxes on the wealthy and that any raise of the debt ceiling be longer term than 2013, so as not to come up again while he tries to win re-election.

Nothing else matters, they will grow the government and spend until it all collapses.

Taxing the wealthy (incomes over $250,000 per year) will be a job and growth KILLER... In a bad economy no worse thing could be done, but it will likely happen.

Spending cuts will be politically targeted, to hurt people who need it the most, so that those evil (insert party here) can be blamed.

It's all politics as usual here... Nothing will be fixed.

i have come to the realization that there is no solution they can give that will benefit americans. none. neither side makes big enough cuts or wants to raise taxes high enough that would allow us to chip away at the mountain of debt we have.

business as usual from both sides, and no chance of change with the current system.
