I live in Lawrence, KS which is approximately 20 miles east of Topeka, KS & approximately 50 miles east of Junction City. Whatever this idiot was up to, I find it curious that he stored some sort of hazardous material at a hotel in Junction City, KS given that the 1st Infantry Division is situated right beside Junction City. In any case, I'm very curious what this material is & why he was hauling it all over my home state.

Glad I got through there yesterday.

Strange, I-70 west of Denver was shut down near the tunnel for a"truck fire" over the weekend.

More fuel for the "homegrown terrorist" brainwashing campaign? I think so.

I live in Lawrence too. Rock Chalk. As crazy as this news story is, I honestly believe it is a lot crazier than what they are telling the general public.

Officials closed down all lanes of eastbound an westbound I-70 at 1:15 from Auburn Rd. in Shawnee County to K-99 in Wabunsee County. It came after police received a call from a man advising them a hazardous material had been intentionally placed in a room at the Ramada Inn in Junction City.

Did I miss something - where did chemical spill
come into play? I thought they found something
or suspected something inside the truck. Anti-
goverment sentiments written on the truck - most
people wouldn't do this unless they were very
disturbed by something or just disturbed. Let
us know of any updates. S @ F

The same thought crossed my mind as well.

I'll reserve any calls of domestic terrorist for now. They should have some more information regarding his intentions or what the chemical even is on the nightly news here in a bit.

This is 2nd and 3rd hand information, but my dad and his friend both had to detour around this and this is what they were able to tell from their conversations with police officers.

--Someone(s) from Junction City was chased out onto I-70.
--The pickup truck held a mobile drug production lab (possibly meth).
--Whatever was in the truck spilled over a large area, and was superconcentrated.

Unfortnately that was all that was different than what I'd seen on the local news. As for this being domestic terrorism...meh, there are a lot of meth labs in Kansas (sadly). But to be fair, I do remember talk back after 9/11 that the next attacks would be in the heartland, where people feel safe (how much safer can you feel next to a major military base in Ft. Riley/Manhattan, hmm?)

Just thought I would try to add some pieces to this puzzle.

In the future though, this area is going to need to be kept under a lens as we have massive connections to government going on via K-State (nuclear engineering education agreement with the navy, NBAF, and continued growing education connections to Ft. Riley), and the increased activity going on at Ft. Riley. They are doing a lot of building and renovation out there. Nothing out of the ordinary so far, but not everything that goes on there is public.

Just saw an update from WIBW out of Topeka on this story. According to them, the whole thing was a hoax...ooo boy.

Here's a close-up of the man's truck

Whatever his underlying objective was, his methodology lacked finesse.

Thanks for posting the info.

Good grief.

Well, better a hoax than another Darwin Award candidate running around with explosives or dangerous chemicals.

Thanks for the update!

I'm with Kyle on this one, I'm smellin a little more here than what's being presented. As an Arkansan myself, I tend to perk up when other Arkansans make headlines (but only because it's rarely for a positive reason). I can't for the life of me think of where he would've gotten something remotely hazardous....unless he was employed by one of Conway's industrial plants. But I doubt he would've had access to anything strong or dangerous enough to justify Hazmat teams or FBI.
Not sure if I buy the Hoax angle either. The whole thing just smells...off.

I posted it and then started reading it. I don't know why they focused on the anti-government sentiment so much, but with that much writing on the truck...I guess you couldn't ignore it.

Thanks for posting that picture, if its in Topeka you can bet its been tarped and under guard so we wouldn't be able to see it until...well ever.
