Washington Times Political Analysis Joseph Curl decided to stir the pot this fine Monday morning.

Please don't shoot the messenger.

But Mr. Curl does bring up some good points.

In the weird world that is Washington, men and women say things daily, hourly, even minutely, that they know deep down are simply not true. Inside the Beltway, we all call those utterances “rhetoric.”

But across the rest of the country, plain ol’ folk call ‘em lies. Bald-faced (even bold-faced) lies. Those folks have a tried-and-true way of determining a lie: If you know what you’re saying is patently false, then it’s a lie. Simple.

And lately, the president has been lying so much that his pants could burst into flames at any moment.

His late-evening news conference Friday was a tour de force of flat-out, unadulterated mendacity — and we’ve gotten a first-hand insider’s view of the president’s long list of lies.

“I wanted to give you an update on the current situation around the debt ceiling,” Mr. Obama said at 6:06 p.m. OK, that wasn’t a lie — but just about everything he said after it was, and he knows it.

“I just got a call about a half-hour ago from Speaker [John A.] Boehner, who indicated that he was going to be walking away from the negotiations,” he said.

Not so: “The White House made offers during the negotiations,” said our insider, a person intimately involved in the negotiations, “and then backtracked on those offers after they got heat from Democrats on Capitol Hill. The White House, and its steadfast refusal to follow through on its rhetoric in terms of cutting spending and addressing entitlements, is the real reason that debt talks broke down.”

Mr. Boehner was more blunt in his own news conference: “The discussions we’ve had with the White House have broken down for two reasons. First, they insisted on raising taxes. … Secondly, they refused to get serious about cutting spending and making the tough choices that are facing our country on entitlement reform.”

But back to the lying liar and the lies he told Friday. “You had a bipartisan group of senators, including Republicans who are in leadership in the Senate, calling for what effectively was about $2 trillion above the Republican baseline that theyve been working off of. What we said was give us $1.2 trillion in additional revenues,” Mr. Obama said.

That, too, was a lie. “The White House had already agreed to a lower revenue number — to be generated through economic growth and a more efficient tax code — and then it tried to change the terms of the deal after taking heat from Democrats on Capitol Hill,” our insider said.

The negotiations just before breakdown called for $800 billion in new “revenues” (henceforth, we’ll call those “taxes”), but after the supposedly bipartisan plan came out — and bowing to the powerful liberal bloc on Capitol Hill — Mr. Obama demanded another $400 billion in new taxes: a 50 percent increase.

Mr. Boehner was blunt: “The White House moved the goalpost. There was an agreement, some additional revenues, until yesterday, when the president demanded $400 billion more, which was going to be nothing more than a tax increase on the American people.”

This article is a bit partisan but my first thought upon reading it was - "THIS is why you think he is a liar"? How about the hundreds of promises he made before the election that he not only failed to deliver on but actually did the OPPOSITE?

Watching the one-third-of-a-term-senator-turned-president negotiate brings to mind a child spinning yarns about just how the living room lamp got broken. Now, though, the grown-ups are in charge; the kids have been put to bed. Ten days ago, the president warned the speaker: “Dont call my bluff.”

Well, Mr. Boehner has. He’s holding all the cards — and he’s not bluffing.

I think a better way to ask the question and be far less partisan wich get's you nowhere is to ask if Obama is a polotician. If you can show me one that does'nt lie, then you have some first rate news to report.

all anyone has to do is look up characteritics of pathological liars and see how it fits obama like a glove.

Points which can be realigned to reference any national politician.

A good rule of thumb, if someone is a politician, they're a pathological liar. It's that simple.

Of course he's a pathological liar. It's an absolute pre-requisite for the job. They are all pathological liars - most Congress men and women, the CIA, FBI, etc. If you're not a liar you don't advance.

Remember - these people use the 'mirror' technique, aka double speak - everything they say is the opposite of the truth, and in fact they consider those who speak the truth traitors and/or terrorists.

Even the names of their agencies is the opposite of the truth:

Department of Defense = Department of Murder
Department of Health = Department of Death
Homeland Security = Homeland Terror
FDA - Federal Poison Association

etc, etc.

One thing is for certain with regards to Obama. He is guilty of repeatedly saying one thing while actually doing the complete opposite. His actions are a detriment to his words and detract from his credibility. In the eyes of his defenders, he does not lie, he only misspeaks or was simply joking when caught in a pinch.

Furthermore, he is guilty of blurting out half truths and lies by omission of critical facts. He's a careful wordsmith who likes to leave the back door to reality wide open.

They are all liars but this one is special, this one has a purpose beyond our own needs, this one is the one!

I don't think all politicians are liars - I think 99.8% of them are liars (I did the math).

Thought this was a very good, simple discussion of the difference between a pathological liar (synonymous with compulsive and habitual liar) and a sociopath.

While it's common for politicians to distort facts and pander for popularity, Mr Obama is a "horse of a different color. I truly believe he is a SOCIOPATH.

A Sociopath

A sociopath is typically defined as someone who lies incessantly to get their way and does so with little concern for others. A sociopath is often goal-oriented (i.e., lying is focused - it is done to get one's way). Sociopaths have little regard or respect for the rights and feelings of others. Sociopaths are often charming and charismatic, but they use their talented social skills in manipulative and self-centered ways (see, lovefraud, for more on sociopaths).

Compulsive Liar

A compulsive liar is defined as someone who lies out of habit. Lying is their normal and reflexive way of responding to questions. Compulsive liars bend the truth about everything, large and small. For a compulsive liar, telling the truth is very awkward and uncomfortable while lying feels right. Compulsive lying is usually thought to develop in early childhood, due to being placed in an environment where lying was necessary. For the most part, compulsive liars are not overly manipulative and cunning (unlike sociopaths), rather they simply lie out of habit - an automatic response which is hard to break and one that takes its toll on a relationship (see, how to cope with a compulsive liar).

Sociopaths are extremely dangerous, particularly when they don't get their way.

Obama is a psychopath, and psychopaths are liars. It's part of their neurological makeup. We voted in Ted Bundy as our President. Yay us.

Find an elected politician that's not a liar and that would be news worthy. Sure there are honest politicians, but they never win an election.

How about one of those that were elect by the people, for the people do a little(lot) soft-shoe the way Obama was elected.

State whatever it takes to become the POTUS and then alter his/her rhetoric to honestly serve the people?
