From my times watching Ghost Adventures using one, it seems to work by switching it on and in areas where there is a reported haunting, asking questions and a word or words come out of the box. There's some kind of hard drive with thousands of words on it inside the box and a microphone for an entity to speak into at the front with speakers also on for people to hear what word has been said.

Not sure about other versions though.

Oh, so you're talking about a device with pre-programmed words that are stimulated into activity based on various electro-magnetic frequencies. That's much different from the experiment that I described.

Honestly, I'm just a bit skeptical on the "ghost box" now. For all you know, you could be picking up the frequencies of nature and it's actually "Gaia" that is doing the talking. Or perhaps its an animal. Or maybe it's even your own subconscious emitting frequencies that end up coming out of the box as words. Pre-programmed words just don't seem legitimate as compared to hearing actual voice phenomenon in my opinion.

But if anyone has any good evidence of what these "ghost boxes" can produce, then indulge me.

Well I had a series of words pop up on mine the day I got it (see previous post), that seemed eerily prophetic. I bought ‘iOvilus’ and also, ‘Ghost Radar’.

Ever since then it has consistently regurgitated garbage.

No, it doesnt work that way. No pre programmed words are used w/ a ghost box. I believe your'e thinking of an ovilus. I completely understand your skepticism. Maybe it is 'gaia' or your inner concious coming thru? I cant say for sure what these entities are, but it is an odd event and it seems to tap into some kind of frequency.

Maybe you're right about the ovilus thing. I may look into these spirit boxes then, there's a few good spots around my local area to test it out in.

Does it actually produce sounds that can be captured on recording equipment?

I have used a Ghost box a few times and had one good experience. We got the name Gwen from it, then later found out that the name had been confirmed by a different team member during a different session.

The small group I'm with also had a good experience with a PX. I was not there at the time, but they were using it in a session when a storm started approaching. The PX started using words like.... storm, lighting, danger, thunder. I have yet to see the video, but I'm told it was pretty impressive. (Just to add... I'm not a big fan of the PX. Of the many times I've seen it used it was never impressive. I wish I had been there when this happened)

Well, what do I say about this.
I have never seen one of these things, neither do I feel like I need one, or I might just say that my Guardian D don't need one of them things to tell me what he wants..

Confused

It this common? Cause I really don't understand the meaning of it...

BUT what do I know, really... I can only speak for ME and how it works for me getting the info I need, or the info HE needs to get through.....

Such a thing seems unnecessary to me..

You are on a paranormal research group and your answer was:

if you end up talking to a nasty spirit, so what?

You toss it off so lightly with "so what?"

You may be flirting with disaster.

LuFi..

I have to agree with you on that, sounds stupid, ignorant and frankly dangerous to me.

Always have enough sense and most of all respect for the ones from the Zone of Spiritworlds.

It might happen that the one you are in contact with are not entirely truthful, that can be hard to figure out, nothing I have had trouble with as of yet, but then again, I have my "D", the only one that actually gives me info, the other ones I just feel or see, they are always quiet, but I am told not to trust just about anyone from the Zone..

Hey guys.. I mostly lurk here, but figured I would post my experience with a ghost box. Specifically a P-SB7.

The spirit box scans a set of frequencies, I do AM reverse sweep, as I've heard it is the best to hear spirit answers. It scans the band and stops on each station for 200 mili seconds (2/10th of a second).

After watching some videos on youtube I picked one up on ebay. I have only used it once - after dark in a large cemetery in Colorado. I was with a paranormal research group and I brought my ghost box to give it a try.

At the time it was very difficult to make out responses because the speakers are not very loud and we were in an open space, however, the digital recorder picks up everything perfectly.

When I reviewed the audio, it is actually quite startling to hear the crystal clear intelligent answers. One after another it answered questions. See, when the spirit box is on.. you hear a "kish-kish-kish-kish" noise as the radio sweeps. There are noises from the stations.. but nothing is intelligible until you ask a question. The answers, like I said... are clear and intelligent.

I could see the argument that "it's just noises on the radio that sound like answers".. but really.. you can't judge the spirit box until you have used one for yourself. I have heard to ask the spirits to cuss to get even better evidence. On my ghost box question if they can cuss.. it is very clear what you hear.

I should mention that I have heard that the spirits can get "stuck" on your side if you suddenly turn the box off. You need to ask them to move back over to their side. I know it sounds crazy, but it helps (prevents?) them from coming home with you (I wouldn't like that very much)..

Bottom line.. if you are interested in it.. I'd pick one up.. but be very careful with it.. respectful.. I have heard bad stories about ghost box use, but my one experience was a good one. I had a meaningful conversation with someone who had been dead for almost 100 years.

Draw your own conclusions, but I wouldn't judge the spirit box until you have tried it

EDIT: I just scrolled back to see that some are confusing a ghost box with an "ovilus". An ovilus is an electronic database full of words. A ghost box is a radio that sweeps either the AM or FM band, pausing for a fraction of a second on each station.

omg- we have actually been cussed out too with the same, Bleep You. And it will give names that are accurate, to the group or location.

Do you feed any information into the device before it starts saying your name?

If i bought one and said nothing at alll near it and didnt feed it any information. Would it stilll say my name?

Last thing. I wouldnt want to welcome ghosts. If i show I like them enough to speek to them they may not want to leave afterwards. Im sure they get lonely and if you start speaking to them, every ghost in your county might start chatting with you when you arent even trying.

My view is they have no buisness chatting with me. Go wherever ghosts go and begone for good.

I have seen these say f-u and then the next word is the name of the person asking questions, and not just the first name but also the last name too...

I guarantee you that these things can really mess with a person..

I personally think that these devices can hurt people in mental and spiritual ways... I'm not saying they always will, but certain people have been affected in bad ways from them.. some people are much more mentally tough and may be better equipped to deal with them than others...it may even depend on the person's or group mood at time of using them that might determine the good or bad energies coming from it..according to some opinions/experiences..

Here is a decent link with a few stories and opinions on bad ghost box experiences...:

The ones that scan, but were not made to be a ghost box in the first place will usually mute everything and stop too long on an active channel.. some can be modded by disabling the mute for when it stops, thus making it continually scan without stopping, giving you a now working ghost box..

The theory is that spirits can sense and affect these ghost boxes to stop on a station so that a word it wants pops out...

And the spirit box is automated to make it real easy for humans and ghosts.. .

The spirit can choose and affect the box to say what it wants using the countless words being said in real time throughout the radio bands being scanned by the box..

If this is really true, (and why couldn't it be?) it implies some pretty incredible realities about our universe and the things in it.. going well beyond what people are ready to minutely accept.. staggering implications in other words..

I am not too spooked by ghosts, if you will pardon the humor, but using one of these ghost boxes really creeps me out...

Just watching others use these things, when they are getting intelligent responses to questions is pretty creepy.

It's true bad things can happen if you don't know what you are doing.
