The A+ is a good place to start as it teaches you about computer hardware, what it is and how it works. It's not totally basic as it talks about more than the basics for example you can learn about bus architecture etc. I think the best way to do an A+ study is to learn yourself and then buy the exams as the courses are mega expensive.

I used the Mike Myers A+ Self Study Guide and cbtnuggets.com where I brought the A+ trainning video which was about $400 and it was the best and most compete resource for CompTIA I have ever found, well worth the money.

That would depend on your previous experience with computers. I think the fact fact that have asked the question, without looking up the pertinent information on the internet, says that "yes this would be a good course for you". I do not mean to be insulting but why would you sign up for a computer information course without researching it? I t may not pertain directly to your job, but knowledge can increase your value in the work force.
