Ravil Gaynutdin, head of the Council of Muftis of Russia, announced that Russia's population of 144 million contains 23 million ethnic Muslims – and not, as the census indicates, 14.5 million, or, as the Orthodox Church estimates, nearer to 20 million. An estimated 3-4 million Muslims are migrants from former Soviet regions, including 2 million Azeris, 1 million Kazakhs, and several hundred thousand Uzbeks, Tajiks and Kyrgyz."

Here's what I think will go down. Iran goes to war with Israel or the USA; Russia will send their Muslim soldiers just so they can get rid of them. The Russians don't like their Muslims just as the Chinese Govt does'nt like theirs....must I say more?

i don't care how many muslims are in any army, freedom of religion is a human right.
it's only when politics are based on religion when it becomes a problem.
each governent should be for it's people not its religious views.

That's a very interesting angle because the future Gog/ Magog war in the Bible indicates that Russia will be involved in a war with Israel and I've never been able to picture how that could go down. But if, as the article predicts, the Russian army becomes majority Muslim soon, then they may be more inclined to join a conflict against Israel then they might otherwise have been.

Russia's always had a large Muslim minority; the 1917-1991 USSR, even more so.

It's hardly surprising that a large swathe of immigrants from the ex-Soviet Central Asian and Caucasian countries will become army recruits in Russia.

Just so you know, historically Christian armies have killed and conquested many more countries and peoples than Muslim armies.

I highly agree with this poster.
Moreover, Russians have trouble with Chechnyan separatists, some of whom have extremist Muslim ties. And, Russia has a large neo-fascist movement, with private army training, and the highest targeted people by them are Muslim minorities from the former republics of the Soviet State, trying to make a living in Russia...
