Now Gamer gets hands on experience with Survival Mode Multiplayer!!
ROUND ONE:
-At the start of each Survival game, both players are equipped with the Last Stand perk, a pistol and a suit of armor. Where you go from there depends on how well you perform, and the upgrades you unlock.
RAMPAGE METER:
-There are also cash challenges similar to contracts in Black Ops. In the bottom left of the screen there is a ‘Rampage’ meter. Rampage fills as you earn killstreaks, and once you hit a certain amount of kills, you get a fat wedge of currency as a bonus.
ARMORY:
-Weapon Armory: You can buy a range of weapons, and even spend extra money upgrading them with attachments such as red dot sights and grenade launchers.
-Equipment Armory: Here, you can unlock grenades and flashbangs, as well as Kevlar vests, auto turrets and even perks. Bear in mind that you only start off with Last Stand, but as you progress you can customise your class further if you have money to spare.
-Air-Support Amory: The cheapest entry is the classic Predator missile from Modern Warfare 2. The other two unlocks are Delta Squad reinforcements that really help turn the tide of battle.
*The first Delta Squad variety calls a team of friendly AI bots into the battle, and they will fight alongside you, and follow your lead until they all keel over and die. They are smart and aggressive, giving you a real boost.
**The second Delta Squad type is a riot shield team. These guys rush in with brutal defence, covering your front and flank from enemy fire. Again, they will stick round as long as they survive.
Multiplayer Map "DOME":
-You have a dusty, open central area that spills out into a ruined warehouse to the east. The facility smacks of Vacant from Call of Duty 4, with blown out windows and low windowsills that can be used as cover. On the west side there is a terrorist cave hideout that is dark and cramped, which is ideal for laying low and volleying off shotgun rounds at advancing enemies. There is only one way in and out however, so this could become a camper hotspot.
C4 ATTACK DOGS:
-They have C4 strapped to their sides, so they now serve as a more aggressive, AI version of the RC-XD car bomb from Black Ops. You can shoot them, but you really have to keep your distance in case your bullet clips the C4 on their sides. Your best bet is a well-timed melee strike or, if you’re clever, waiting until a dog is near a pack of enemies and shooting it. The resulting explosion will wipe out any enemies unlucky enough to be nearby. If you do happen to be downed by a dog, you can still break their neck with a quick tap of the right stick.
BODY ARMOR:
-As we mentioned, each player starts Survival with a suit of body armor. This adds 100 hit points worth of damage on to your character, so essentially it’s like having an extra life. This armor chips away as you take damage, and once it’s gone you run the risk of being downed and killed. However, if you save up enough currency, you can buy a new Kevlar vest from the equipment armory.
OLD CALL OF DUTY GUNS RETURN:
-The MP5, P90 with holographic sights and Famas. They are all powerful and light, but they certainly don’t feel over the top. It’s further testament that Infinity Ward is going back to Call of Duty 4 levels of balancing, something that transfer well in multiplayer.
Their final verdict, "Absolutely brilliant. There is a real sense that Infinity Ward has stripped back Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer right down to the core fundamentals laid out by Call of Duty 4. You can feel it in Survival mode due to how the guns feel in action."
