This is my first post here, so forgive me if I've done something wrong. I did a search to see if this had been discussed before, but could find nothing.

This past weekend PBS aired a show that was a fascinating look at Fukushima. Over the past few months, I've seen many people ask the same questions. What really happened? What went wrong? Just how bad is it really? This documentary answered those questions and more.

I found the fatalistic expression seen on many faces very disturbing...and sad. As a west coast resident, I found the time-lapsed fallout path very interesting.

Here is a list of them. I have NO idea if the video is available to watch on-line. Someone with more experience in such matters might be able to help.

PBS list of NHK's Fukushima Reports

ETA this is the episode I watched: #009 NHK WORLD SPECIALS/FUKUSHIMA NUCLEAR CRISIS, PART I "How the Problems Went from Bad to Worse" (1/58)

I missed those shows. I looked at your the link and it gives some licensing details, unlimited runs for one week after the air date, after that, apparently nothing. It also says something about the rights contract expiring July 16??

I did a little searching but didn't find it online.

I'd be very surprised if they have all the answers in a documentary this soon. Facts have been leaking out gradually for months and still continue to do so. One example that comes to mind is that they didn't even know how bad the meltdown was at three mile island until years after the event, when they lowered a camera into the reactor and found a lot of it missing.

I used to watch public TV, but it seemed like they spent as much time begging for money as they did showing programming and I got tired of that and stopped watching it for the most part. But I would have been interested in seeing the episode you mentioned. I think we needed the heads up right after it aired though because we then had less than a week to catch a rerun.

I'm hopeful they'll re-air it. It says the original air date was just this past weekend (when I watched it) and it has unlimited runs for a week, which means to my tired brain that they might run it again. But I could be wrong.

Jeesh. In this day and age of Boobtube replays, I'm stunned it's not posted on-line somewhere. What's up with that?

Some of the surprising stuff I learned was the amount of fallout they've detected ALL OVER JAPAN. Well, okay, I'm not surprised because I've been predicting from the beginning what a huge hit Japan would take, but NHK showed a map of Japan, and a multitude of hot spots, each of which had something like 10 times the amount of "acceptable" radiation within that hot spot. They detailed how those hot spots came into existence, too, overlaying weather data with the radiation plume. They are literally ALL OVER Japan. Very interesting.

Another thing they mentioned is that the tea crop in southern Japan has been affected. I guess the way tea leaves process energy means that they store radioactive particles. So watch out tea drinkers. Those leaves might be "hot" in more than one way.

Dagnabit. I really wish we could find this on-line.

Yes your brain is tired; there's no original air date for July 16-17 in this list:

RIGHTS:
Contract period: 03/17/2011-07/16/2011 - EXPIRED (not in rights)

#007 NHK WORLD SPECIALS/MARCH 11th DISASTER
PART I "Recovery Plans in the Spotlight" (50:00)
Release: Saturday June 18 2011
Rights: Unlimited runs / One week from program feed

#008 NHK WORLD SPECIALS/MARCH 11th DISASTER
PART II "Reviving the Tohoku Region’s Manufacturing Sector" (73:00*)
Release: Sunday June 19 2011
Rights: Unlimited runs / One week from program feed

#009 NHK WORLD SPECIALS/FUKUSHIMA NUCLEAR CRISIS
PART I "How the Problems Went from Bad to Worse" (58:00*)
Release: Saturday July 9 2011
Rights: Unlimited runs / One week from program feed

#010 NHK WORLD SPECIALS/FUKUSHIMA NUCLEAR CRISIS
PART II "The Fallout on People & Communities" (49:00*)
Release: Saturday July 9 2011
Rights: Unlimited runs / One week from program feed

Air date was July 9th. So if you saw it one week later on July 16th, that was the probably the last day of the one week run? And that also correlates with the contract expiration date shown.

However I wish they would show it again, I'd like to see it.
