Hi timidgal

I am not sure what am I going to look for in your (moon image), here is supermoon images taken by me couple of months ago as you see nothing in there (unusual).

full supermoon by Amkia, on Flickr

Supermoon approching by Amkia, on Flickr

moon by Fuji by Amkia, on Flickr

When you are going to shoot night images especially the moon never set the camera exposure setting to automatic or use auto focus or high ISO sensitivity, always use tripod, monopod.

I'm quite used to seeing 'Moon halo's' around here, i dont know the technical term for them, but its a blue ring that circles the moon. Can be huge, can be small. I've been seeing weird sun rings too lately.. not even a full ring, maybe its my sunglasses..haha

I put moon halos and sun halos down to heavy particulate matter in the atmoshere thanxs to our friendly Earth destroyers little party in the skies

If you want to learn about the interesting atmospheric effects that can be seen check out this site.
Moon Halos
I have the link for the Lunar halo, but check out some of the other pages as well. Then look for these interesting and often very common effects.

Two moons, two suns and before you know it two of everything. This is what I think is going on. people really are seeing two moons and two suns. But what they are seeing really is not there. There is so much crap in our atmosphere when the angle and temperature is right you get this dual image effect. It is not any camera anomaly but an atmospheric anomaly. If I am right this is only going to get worse

Why do you think anything is getting worse? The atmospheric phenomena are due to ice crystals in the air. You think it is bad that there are clouds and moisture? You are suggesting that the water cycle is bad?

We are pumping more and more crap in the air each day. The strange anomalies are going to get so common that everyone is going to start seeing them all the time. That is the worse part I was talking about. In fact there may be a day coming when looking up you do not see two suns or two moons is odd.

What do you mean by crap? Are you talking gasses or particulates?

These are not strange anomalies. These are not strange at all. Sun dogs appear in the sky about 2 times a week. This is natural. Optical effects are common. I just saw a solar halo and a circumscribed halo and a circumzenith arc and plenty of sun dogs and an effect I was unable to identify.

I see these atmospheric effects often because I look for them. They are no more common today than when I first started looking for them. They are not anomalies. They have been written about for centuries.

If people started looking around themselves they would not think these are odd. It is the person that is unfamiliar with the world around them that thinks these are odd and makes unsubstantiated claims such as the ones you are making.

I was fairly sure that you did not understand what was happening in the sky and instead of making an effort to understand you simply made up some goobly gook story. You might want to take the time to look up atmospheric phenomena and learn why we see these things. It is quite interesting and I'll bet you will find it much more interesting than claiming some sort of unknown vague cause.

Thanks for all of the great info you provided, stereologist, but I think that you and Fixer1967 were merely looking at the situation from two different perspectives. You're all about the technical aspects, which is great, but Fixer was focusing more on the philosophical aspects of what all the pollution, chemicals and other unnatural elements being released into the atmosphere is doing to our perception of things. One perspective literal (yours) and the other's more philosophical (Fixer's). Both appreciated contributions.

I do not believe that Fixer1967 made any philosophical statements. They claims the following

There is so much crap in our atmosphere when the angle and temperature is right you get this dual image effect.

I do not see that as a philosophical claim.

Then they makes the following prediction.

It is not any camera anomaly but an atmospheric anomaly. If I am right this is only going to get worse

This prediction may involve his philosophy combined with his original faulty notion that this is due to "crap in the atmosphere."

This is followed by

We are pumping more and more crap in the air each day. The strange anomalies are going to get so common that everyone is going to start seeing them all the time.

Again the idea that pollution causes this condition.

When told that pollution is not the cause he decided to give up.

Is that also his philosophy: quit when shone the light?

Pollution is not the cause of the effect. Water in the form of ice crystals causes these beautiful effects.

Thats caused by ice particles high up in the atmosphere.

A nice example

You are so smart that you are dumb
You are telling me that I am wrong and at the same time your statement just backed up mine.

Pollution is not the cause of the effect. Water in the form of ice crystals causes these beautiful effects.

More pollution in the air gives the ice crystals more to form on.
More pollution=more ice crystals
More ice crystals=more strange sightings.
That is why I gave up. You in-effect started to fight with yourself over your own statements. I seen no point in trying to talk to a tree so I gave.
And FYI I am not dummy even if you do think so. My IQ has been tested to be 146.
I am done with this thread. Have a nice day.
