This is could be a great day,or a horrible day in history thanks to this incredible breakthrough. This could open up doors to so many things!Cyborgs, avatar like biengs, great new medical research, even a way to link soldiers in combat through certain frequencies.OR this could mean that we may all be injected by some sort of nano-machines for lifetime tracking..Theres limitless possibilies! Heres the link www.sciencedaily.com...

Conventional electronics are typically made of rigid, brittle materials and don't function well in a wet environment. "Our memory device is soft and pliable, and functions extremely well in wet environments -- similar to the human brain," Dickey says.

Prototypes of the device have not yet been optimized to hold significant amounts of memory, but work well in environments that would be hostile to traditional electronics. The devices are made using a liquid alloy of gallium and indium metals set into water-based gels, similar to gels used in biological research.

The device's ability to function in wet environments, and the biocompatibility of the gels, mean that this technology holds promise for interfacing electronics with biological systems -- such as cells, enzymes or tissue. "These properties may be used for biological sensors or for medical monitoring," Dickey says.

Wow this is freakin' cool, there are so many applications for this I don't even know where to start thinking

This is an interesting development. I might be wrong, but doesn't it need a processor of some sort to generate the information that the memory will store? I realize this is still in the experimental stages and that is probably being addressed. Will be fascinating to see where this leads.

Being a computer science major myself, I love to hear about new technology being released to the public! However, I'll be honest this particular story doesn't sit well with me for some reason, I have a funny feeling about this one and it doesn't feel right.

Maybe its:

"Our memory device is soft and pliable, and functions extremely well in wet environments -- similar to the human brain," Dickey says.

Maybe its just me, but that sets an alarm off for me.

I dont know this for sure but when they find a way for this technology to store a large amount of info im sure theyll be programmed to link to some sort of radio frequency that will send and receive data, similar to a cellphone or wi-fi.I found this link to a nano-technology research site thats sort of related www.micro.mavt.ethz.ch... this could be a possible cyborg power source lol!

I'd love to see this used to interface prosthetics to spinal cord victims, etc. However it will probably ultimately be used by the antichrist to implement the mark of the beast.

16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or[f] the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.

And so the cyborg collective begins.

^^^^^^^^for the star trek fans^^^^^^^^

I always said that anything our brains can do a computer can be programmed to do better.

Hmm, the way they mention the brain as soft and wet (and compatible) makes me think they've already tried implying one of these into.............
Something.

Great find. S&F

Its awesome but scary at the same time. I have the same eerie feeling when watching the cyborg beetles the military is developing.

If you haven't watch the Japanime show Ghost in the Shell (mix of movies and a TV show), you should Netflix them. Great animation, great writing, and scary at times. Not scary in the traditional sense. But scary what the writers perceive technology will be in the digital future and how it can be turned into crime.

One scary and sick example is from "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence" movie. Here's what it is about:

gynoids—androids made in the form of young women and used as sex dolls—that have killed eight people, having deliberately been tampered with in order to trigger a police investigation. The dolls possessed a "ghost" that was created by using an illegal method using a "ghost-dubbing" machine that produces "information-degraded, high-volume copies", but killing the original in the process. Young girls were kidnapped by the Yakuza and sold to LOCUS SOLUS for this process.

Wiki source

Crazy and sick concept. But I wouldn't put it pass the human race doing such a thing if cyborgs and robots are a common sight. This is just another form of child pornography and human trafficking for the 21st century.

Amazingly creepy, as all new technologies.
I wonder about the potential toxicity of the compounds (I admit to lack any medical knowledge at all), I mean, Iridium sounds like something that glows...

A flag for you, my friend

Step one on the road to the fully networked human, with backup.

Where are we going to be in 50 years, or 100.

I'm going to have to improve my lifestyle, I want to see it :-)

Hi OP
Interesting topic ! We have amazing technology eh!?
Made a thread but it didn't take off like yours. This is alll interesting to me. I believe we will one day be like the bionic man and woman lol. Sci fi coming true eh?!
S*F for you.
Here is my thread - it's related ..has a couple interesting links there.
