Okay, this is a first (and probably last) thread of this sort for me. I mostly comment on political and sociological issues. I don’t think I’ve ever, anywhere, started a tinfoil hat kind of thread, but I feel this has to come out. And believe me, I’m perfectly fine if you want to laugh at this whole thing and call me nuts. I’d probably do the same under normal circumstances. Anyway, I’d like to tell you the whole story, but I can’t without having my thread removed. But here's the essence of it:

On a Saturday a few weeks ago, I was having some pretty good insights about myself and my life, but I was not having the coveted “mystical experience.” I was not having any revelations about religion, or god or any of that stuff.

Until about 3 hours into it. At that point I walked out on my porch. I can’t remember exactly what I was thinking about. Suddenly, and it seemed to have been caused by a weird way I looked at the sky, I became aware of another world. Just for a few seconds. This was the world of spirits and other conscious entities. A normally unseen world. And I only saw about 1/100th of 1 percent. But it seemed, and still seems, very, very real. Even more “real” in the truest sense of the word that what we call reality.

What happened is that I suddenly became aware of an entity called Thurbian. Thurbian is, essentially, a demon. One of many who tries to harm people by getting in their minds. I got a sense of what the ultimate mission of these demons was, but that’s another matter. Let me tell you, specifically, what Thurbian’s specialty is.

Ever try to quit smoking? Quit drinking? Start working out? Write a book? Build something incredible? Just generally accomplish something significant? Well, when you try do these things, Thurbian gets in your mind and tries to discourage you, especially when the going gets tough. And he excels at one thing in particular, if you make even the slightest slip Thurbian pounces! He tries to convince you that your current efforts have ended in failure. That you’ve lost. That you’ve been defeated.

I pick smoking because it’s a great example. Let’s say you’re trying to quit. You’ve gone 2 full days, and you’re on the 3rd. But it’s brutally hard. Seems to take every ounce of mental energy you have and at some point, you break. You have a smoke. What usually happens is that after that smoke, you just give up. Not permanently, you’ll try again, but you view the current effort to quit as having ended in failure. So it’s back to smoking. At least for a few weeks.

THAT’S WHAT THURBIAN WANTS!!! Like any demon, he wants to make your life difficult and keep you from moving on in your spiritual development.

You COULD HAVE said, “NO!! I’m not giving up! That cigarette was only a momentary setback! I’m getting right back on the saddle and NOT SMOKING!!” But Thurbian wants you to get bogged down with life’s challenges – the less you accomplish with your life the less you’ll develop spiritually.

So in a nutshell, you need to watch out for Thurbian ANY time you’re taking on a difficult challenge and are starting to feel the urge to throw in the towel. Don’t let Thurbian get control of your mind.

The absolute BEST WAY to inoculate yourself against Thurbian is to remind yourself, when facing a tough challenge that A MOMENT OF WEAKNESS IS NOT DEFEAT! IT’S ONLY A MOMENTARY SETBACK!! Get back in the saddle immediately. Even the strongest among us have moments of weakness. Do not think a moment of weakness means you’re a weak person. Fight back! Kick Thurbian’s @ss!!

I know. It all sounds nuts. Sounds that way to me too. And yet, Even though this happened several weeks ago and I’m normally not into this stuff, it still seems real. And I have this nagging sense that I saw what I saw in those few seconds because I was supposed to tell people about Thurbian. VERY few people know about this demon and what he does. If more people just knew, he wouldn’t be so effective.

BTW, feel free to ridicule this if tht’s how you see it.. I will not take offense. I really needed to get this out of my system, and I feel better now.

So Thurbian is your excuse for a lack of self control?

Is that about right?

Where did you get that idea?

I think he meant that Thurbian is a demonic being/thing that takes pleasure in making people give up. Lol, or something like that.

This Thurbian guy best not get it my way, I've got plans for myself! What kind of plans? I don't know, yet...best not give up, ehh.

The reason you give up and smoke another cigarette or take another drink is because you have no self control. It's not because some demon named Thurbian forces you to.

That's what we call an excuse.

Could you give some links about Thurbian. To me it sounds like its made up out of a fairy tail or something.
I would just call it a conscience.

Wait! Did I say ME???? That this was all about ME trying to quit smoking? No. read it again. I just used smoking as an example. I did smoke at one time. Quit in 1982. BTW, to say someone trying to quit smoking "has no self-control" if they have a cigarette is embarrasingly ignorant on your part.

Not the literal you...the universal "you" my friend. It applies to whoever is using this excuse. People can't blame all their backsliding on demons named Thurbian.

Where the hell did personal responsibility go??

Well it may very well be some kind of subconscious projection on my part. I don't doubt that possibility. I don't assert that Thurbian is necessarily real. Only that this is something I just saw in an instant -- that my logical mind tells me wasn't real but my instincts tell me was. But links? C'mon! This wasn't exactly something I found on the internet. I mean it's like asking me for links for something that I dreamed.

I only posted as a public service -- that there is essentially something like a cosmic speed trap out there that people might want to be aware of. If they are facing a difficult challenge that requires willpower to see it through, they might want to remember this story. It can be valuable even if they don't believe in demons --except the self-generated ones-- at all.

What you call Thurbian is what I call negative self-talk. I don' t blame it on a demon though. I take responsibility for my own thoughts and actions.

This happened three hours into your trying to have some experience?

Wow. My writing must really suck. That's the only thing I can figure.

I think you --TOTALLY-- missed the point. Thurbian is the exact opposite of an excuse. The whole point was that you shouldn't let Thurbian be successful. In my example with cigarettes, it wasn't Thurbian who made the person smoke, but rather Thurbian that tried to convince the person, after they had a smoke, that they had failed to quit smoking and should continue smoking.

No I TOTALLY got your point I'm afraid.

The bottom line, however, is that there is no Thurbian....therefore he cannot be successful. Unfortunately that is a figment of your imagination to allow yourself and others to blame someone other than themselves for failing.

So do I. Don't you think someone who is trying to quit smoking is not taking responsibility for their actions?

Apparently not. It would seem that Thurbian tricked them into it wouldn't it?

Yeah, you could think that this Demon is trying to get you to fail.

OR

You could do some spiritual growth of your own and figure out that He's trying to teach you something.

I think it is an interesting idea, and I actually think this could be helpful to some people. By giving this negative mindset a face, people might be able to more easily focus on defeating the mindset.

(I kinda think Thurbian may have creeped into your thread though)

So Thurbian is something you made up well at least you're honest.I'm sure if it existed someone would have had a vision other than yourself.

Uh, no, that's NOT the bottom line. That's not an absolute fact. Maybe he does exist, maybe he doesn't. It can't be proven either way.

And evidently, you didn't fully comprehend my last response. It has nothing to do with blame. NOTHING. It is an attempt to do quite the opposite: help people follow through with their objectives. Make them aware they might believe they simply can't win when in fact they can.

Again, it has nothing to do with BLAME. That seems to be what you've decided it's about, in spite anything I say or anything in the thread itself.
