Texas Rep. Ron Paul says he will retire from Congress when his term runs out in 2012 and will focus on his campaign for president.
The 75-year-old Republican said Tuesday that he has been criticized in the past for running for Congress and the presidency at the same time. He says he believes he can fight for the issues he believes in from outside of Congress.
Paul says he will serve out his term through December 2012.

I just don't believe TPTB will let him get anywhere near the White House.

I think they should all have to do that. The contenders that is. I wish I could say the POTUS also but...
Anyway, he is doing it to focus strickly on his POTUS Run. This is a good thing and I think it will go a long way with people out in the real world.
Of course, since it is him-it will be spun like a Paling quitting the Governors job. Mark my words. Or/rathe. He's too old to do both (in an attempt to put him in a bad light etc).
Good luck to him.

This makes me sad. Seeing that the Republican establishment hates him more than the Dems do, he has no shot at the Repub nomination. If he's not in Congress, who is going to give hell to Bernanke and the Fed?
The only hope is that he remains Republican only until a nominee is declared and then breaks away to form his own Independent candidacy. Sadly, that would likely only ensure an Obama victory a la Teddy Roosevelt and his BullMoose effort.
It was nice to know that at least 1 guy had it right in Washington, DC.
“History will record the legislative record of Ron Paul as an extraordinary one – perhaps unparalleled. There probably has never been a more consistent believer in limited government in Congress. America deserves a statesman like Ron Paul as her president, a man I am proud to call my father.”
