Russian Titanic! Cruise ship "Bulgarija" sank while sailing under Kazan

The decrepit Bulgaria riverboat, which was carrying at least 208 people, capsized Sunday in the Volga River in Tatarstan, killing at least 129, including about 30 children, officials said Monday.

An investigation into Russia's worst maritime disaster in 25 years was in full swing Monday, but the actual cause appeared to have been a lack of air conditioning — which prompted the crew to open portholes that were then flooded by an incoming wave.

Terribly sorry for all the dead and children and adults! They were not to blame for what, moreover, that sat on the fatal flight!
President Dmitry Medvedev has declared Tuesday, July 12, a day of national mourning due to the sunken MS Bulgaria.
“I’ve decided to declare Tuesday, July 12, a day of national mourning,” Medvedev said at a meeting devoted to the tragedy on the Volga River.

Tragic example of something we see more and more. The infrastructure is failing wherever it is not 'profitable' to remedy.

I think many people have lost their way.

Such a terrible loss.

May they know peace.

I have been to Russia many times, and I have to agree. The corruption in that country is running rampant. The country is corrupt top to bottom, and until they get past this the country will continue to fall apart. They can’t spend even the smallest amount of money to maintain the country’s infrastructure. The most basic needs of life get over looked as the city’s sewer, water, power, and physical maintenance are in a shameful state of disrepair. Do not get me wrong however. I really enjoyed my time there; I met many people that were great hosts. We had a great time and all that, but the county is in a perpetual state of squalor. It is a shame to see the once great Metro in Moscow reduced to refuse filled pits. At one time these Metro stations were museums to the spirit of the people, and their pride in their nation. They are now covered in graffiti, in states of terrible disrepair, and filled with trash. This is a very sad state of affairs, and this sort of accident due to a minor maintenance oversight is all too common in the former USSR.
