That is weird for sure, even with the guys body blocking the screen for a second the ref is moving super fast. Not sure about the length of the hockey pitch but to go from start to stop and cover even a short distance from the sidelines on the ice that quick has to be impossible, even if the ref was already moving at a slower speed to begin with. Am now showing my wife who said 'That's weird, but not as weird as you dear!'. Meaning me lol.

Either way if a normal event its a fantastic shot, and if other even better.

It's possible that one of the team did a quick change act into a ref's uniform.

Let me show you what I mean -

I can't figure it out. It can't be the ref on the right at :05, he would have broken the sound barrier if he were to have come all the way around to break it up. It has to be the ref in the background at :03, skating about 100 MPH, then stopping on a dime to break up the fight. A glitch in the matrix makes the most sense.

Pause at about the 6-7 second mark over #88 right shoulder, you get a glimpse of the refs helmet right before he splits the two.

I agree with this theory. It's what I thought too.

Cool vid though.

ha! now thats a real media mystery! I re-ran the video many times over and I just dont see where he came from. its very fun to try and spot where he is before his sudden appearance. It'd be neat if someone could give a diagram of where he was before during and after his appearance. it's so crazy how he just seems to POP right outta nowhere.

It's a camera glitch. Sometime a video camera will drop frames, either because of a faulty SD card or in post/editing.

I video with a DSLR and if I don't use a class 6 or above SDHC card, my camera will drop frames. I would imagine that most sports are videoed with a RED. Same deal.

I think that the referee is behind the 88 player and the 25 referee while the camera changes angle, it's just that the referee is moving at such perfect timing he stays behind them while the camera changes.

Well that's my theory, makes sense to me.

Wow.. I also played it frame by frame and I tried to figure out where he showed up from, I found nothing.

Even if he did move as fast in a crouched position, I do not see how he would entirely dodge the camera's point of view and pop up at such an awkward angle.

As many other posters, I am not willing to go to the extent of calling it paranormal, however it is abnormal beyond almost all other live footage I have seen.

Good find! S&F.

Awsome find! I don't see anything Magical or Supernatural but talk about an unintentional trick of the camera! That made me want to see it again just because I was shocked when he first appeared. Very entertaining as well were the magical exploits of "Quick Cahnge". Thanks for that addition.

I've never hear of stable media dropping frames. But looking it up, perhaps I never saw that World (I've only ever known cards). Disk drives CAN drop frames (and tape a whole lot more)

en.wikipedia.org...

The RED ONE is meant for movies, not sports, and the TV people probably use plain old HD cameras.

Well, you just got caught by another of those lame 'viral' videos.
It was faked to sell something (new film I think).

There is the possibility that the frames leading up the the ref appearing were edited out.
What's the source of this video anyway ? Who's to say a few frames weren't deleted ?

This is one of the most common means of making things miraculously appear out of thin air in video, is by stopping and starting a video camera. Or by editing frames out of the video itself.

Since the mysteriously appearing Ref's number "86" is clearly shown. Why not look at the game itself and see if that ref was ever assigned to that game ?

Obviously this is from the Stanley Cup playoffs from 2009-2010....BlackHawks vs RedWings for I see #33 Byfuglien for the Black Hawks in front of the nets in the clip.

Byfuglien, pronounced "Bufflin" was traded for draft picks post season after the Hawks won the cup last year....to Atlanta I believe.

edit on 11-7-2011 by nh_ee because: I think it's a mere edit ....would need to see the original tape counter...

You have all missed the real proof that this is indeed supernatural. If you watch at the 5 second mark, the announcer is saying "25" but notice the number on the ref. How did the announcer know that he would be skating by at that exact time?
