www.bloomberg.com

LinkedIn Corp., a website focused on job seekers and recruiters, surpassed Myspace to become the No. 2 social-networking service in the U.S. last month, boosted by its initial public offering in May.

The company had 33.9 million visitors in June, up 63 percent from a year earlier, while Myspace had 33.5 million, down 50 percent, according to a Reston, Virginia-based ComScore Inc. (SCOR) report. Facebook Inc. remained the largest social- networking site with 160.9 million U.S. visitors,...

When it comes to Social Media, websites like LinkedIn are on the rise.

It might even overtake Facebook if Mark Zuckerberg doesn't watch it.

Are you a professional member of LinkedIn like I am?

It is considered the business/professional networking website to have an account on.

What is LinkedIn?

I've been thoroughly impressed with the websites professional look.

The groups for discussion of businesses.

And as well the access to information.

With today's unemployment and economy, people are starting to pay attention to professional matters, rather than societal.

They want to get their name out there.

Many should be careful of what they wish for though as many have posted a lot of stupid stuff in their past that can and will be found by anybody looking for it.

Agreed.

There was an article I read on LinkedIn about 7 years of social media for background checks.

You do have to be careful.

It does look quite professional.

The problem I can see is when a place get's popular, the great unwashed will flock to it.

And it could lose it's professionalism.

Won't be as bad as this place though:

The less professional people will not hack it.

Considering the discussions going on they will not be tolerated either.

I've joined in a few very serious discussions on there.

Well that's a good sign,

Let's hope they can keep the standards up, it's a difficult task when popularity increases.

LinkedIn is a nice site. My bosses had me sign up a while back. Seems to be a lot of recruiters on there. A good place to find some work, depending on the field your in.

I wouldn't think it would appeal to most of the people that would try to cause trouble, though. The site's structure is pretty limiting in who or how you can interact with other people. They should be able to keep the professionalism going, imo.

I find it difficult thinking of LinkedIn as a "social networking" site.

Yes, it certainly is a place for "professionals" to interact ... to network .... to establish contacts
and I suppose that this does, indeed, make LinkedIn fall into the category as a social networking sitei.
However, LinkedIn doesn't immediately pop into mind when sites like Facebook, MySpace or Google+ are mentioned.

Of course, LinkedIn might surpass Facebook if they only got a FarmVille app.

Who wants people who would cause trouble?

I agree that the site is limiting to interaction.

I never chose to be a conspiracy theorist to cause trouble.

Nor would I professionally.

I am always the policy enforcer.

Yes, but there is a common goal, much stronger than conspiracy theory.

Business.

I do not see the standards being affected by popularity.

I see them being enforced due to it through business people.

Little to no need for moderators.

I've become leery of such locations as time has gone by.
So many to choose from so many options.

I dunno.

LinkedIn is a decent place.

It's the other places I do not trust.

It is simply and purely business on LinkedIn.

Without the childish games and nonsense.

I never saw any advertisements.

Someone I knew told me about it.

I now put my profile on my business cards.
