Here we go again. NASA is becoming increasingly obvious.

They do it often but they don't do it very well, here is more evidence of NASA doctoring images from the surface of the Moon, what is hidden behind the blacked out part of the picture below? I visited NASA's web page Astronomy Picture Of The Day and was astonished to see the tampered photo blatently placed on their web page, it's not even well done is it?

Explanation: Tycho crater's central peak complex casts a long, dark shadow near local sunrise in this spectacular lunarscape. The dramatic oblique view was recorded on June 10 by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Shown in amazing detail, boulder strewn slopes and jagged shadows appear in the highest resolution version at 1.5 meters per pixel. The rugged complex is about 15 kilometers wide, formed in uplift by the giant impact that created the well-known ray crater 100 million years ago. The summit of its central peak reaches 2 kilometers above the Tycho crater floor.

Do you remember this episode?

I'm not sure what caused the anomaly you have pointed out but I noticed this when I was checking out the pic.

Weird boulder?

Crashed Luna lander/satellite?

Space junk?

The thing with Dione and Titan was explained somewhere. I'll see if I can find the link to it. Someone questioned NASA about the abvious retouching of the image and the person responsible for that explained that when the shots are taken there's a little movement between the images. The need more than one to create an image. And the slight offset between the images makes them brush away light spill. Well... it was something like that, but it seemed pretty plausible to me.

I think that NASA's photoshoppers can do a way better job than that, if they needed to. And if they needed to, we'd probably never know it.

I'd say it has something to do with the way the image is stitched together, you can sort of see it as the image loads while you zoom in and out on the LROC image viewer.

As for this one:

As described on APOD the image has been coloured by Emily Lakdawalla.

Color composite: Emily Lakdawalla

Here's the original black and white image taken by Cassini:

Even I can do better photo shopping than that. Looks like a 2 year old scribbled in the black.

What's funny, I was on the phone with my dad and we got into discussing the NC nuke plant and if something should happen. He goes, they will tell you plenty of time in advance when to evacuate because they don't want family lawsuits, and I told him yeah, 2 minutes before it's about to blow and we would be all dead, so forget the lawsuits.

Awesome find.

All you have to really do, is erase the black mark in photo shop and woo-la , there's your image. So, someone do it please, I'm too lazy right now. Plus I have to re install all my art programs.

Its a misleading statement to say there is a "blacked out" area.
Its a change in contrast between the top half of the image and the lower half. The line of change extends all the entire way across the width of that image, if you bother to look.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/d886c9688edb.jpg[/atsimg]

A simpler explanation is that its just two (or more) images stitched together.

And as pointed out by others, that assertion is bordering on being a lie as well.

these things always interest me.
did they edit photos because they're hiding something or are they tired of trying to answer questions like 'whats that there' when they haven't a clue.

Ah, dunno why I bothered creating that image and uploading it. Waste of time really. Nobody on ATS want boring facts when some dood claims there's an alien base.

ok, forget that the line of contrast extends over the entire width of the image and that there is no "blacked out" area. Yeah, claims of an alien base are so much more exciting so go wallow in that. Have fun.

What good would that do?
That would do nothing but leave a big blank mark on the image.
Not familiar with graphics programs?.

The image isnt in layers,
nothing is going to be 'revealed' or 'seen' by "erasing" part of a single layer image.

Just wondering..
What would be the point of your suggestion?
