Same with human augmentation, once it becomes part of our lives, there will be people who will be modified (stronger) and normal people. Now imagine these conflicts.

I would rather transfer to what I believe is the afterlife like nature intended.

Then stop taking any and all medicines now!

Nature intended you to die early like most humans pre-medicine age

Living a thousand years is still a lot less than compared to infinity which is the afterlife.

Agreed as YOU ALL possess eternal energy, why trapp it in 3d. Imagine you were asked this before you got here (HOW MANY YEARS IN 3D DO YOU WISH TO INTERACT) and someone says 100 3d lifetimes

Nice wish
but Gore is already on the depopulation
issue.

You really think TPTB is going to let this happen>?

What about someone being on social security for 80 years
you think that will work?

I have never, in my entire life, met anyone [ baring sick and suicidal ]who WANTS to die. Socially acceptable way?. What does that even mean? Living for hundreds of years would be paradise to me. I want to see what technology develops and to stand on another planet under a different star. I'll start saving for my immortality meds now.

If everyone lived 1,000 years I believe things would be a lot different. We would have years to learn and understand what life is really about. We could do so much with our lives. A person can change careers 100 times or go on vacation for a year.
If extended life span was paired with something like the Venus project it would work. With our current monterial system only the rich will live to 1,000 and everyone else will still struggle. I believe 1000 years of life would be enough for me. I wish we could all have a choice on how long we live; we could just sayI lived 500 years and I am ready to go. I believe people would live much happier, freer lives with an extended life span people would feel less need to rush.
HOw would the rules of society change though would you not become an adult until 100 or something? Surely a person would not be elderly for 930 years!
In ancient times people lived 300-1000 years how did that work. What was differnt back then that everyone lived so long?

Lets think about this economically? The creators of the extended life technology are going to sell this to the elite for whatever amount of money they like but then what? They no longer have a market so the price will drop and become, if not affordable, then obtainable for the middle class, probably for a 200 year mortgage like scenario. Here is the kicker, how do they foreclose if you fall behind in your payments? Suppose they could just stop your supply if its medication but what if it is a permanent, gene therapy type procedure. Either way it sounds like another good way to enslave the populace. Combine this with some sort of mass sterilisation and you have instant population control. I'm sure different levels of extended life could be built into the system, allowing the undesirables to die off before everyone else.

Indefinite longevity should only be available to atheists. The religious types should want to meet their god ASAP anyway, right?

Well said. My wife and I often debate this subject and what is or is not "natural". I think that anything we do and whatever progress we make, no matter how foreign, is "natural". In fact, it would be unnatural to not pursue human evolution to the best of our abilities.

Life as we know it will be a vastly remote notion 20 years from now. And that's perfectly fine.

IMO they would need to means test the drug - if you cannot support yourself, without benefits, then you don't get the drug.

Not really fair - but the earth is already reaching overpopulation levels - throw into the mix everyone living longer lives, and we're screwed.

Please dont start spewing the "overpopulation" drivel. I dont see how you can buy into that type of mentality...

Its just so unrealistic, there is so much open land, and there is so much innovative technology that the government does not want to release to the public which would easily curb any problem the planet faces, even population.

We are only unsustainable because of what we choose to sustain ourselves with. We choose to use oil, we choose to eat beef, and we choose trap everybody in a debt cycle.

Unsustainability caused by overpopulation and, overpopulation itself, are myths.

Spewing drivel? Come now.

The world is dying due to the way in which we treat it - millions die due to famine. Open your eyes and look at India / China for over population.

If we could wave a magic wand and change our habits, and the way we act, then yes - I agree. There is enough land.

But we live in the real world, and the real world is sitting at over 6 billion people - and growing.

Throw in a magic pill which lets all these people extend their lives past 150, and where do you think we will sit?

The resources are there, the food is there. The problem is that energy is devoted to war and B.S. politics and power struggles. Everyone is fighting for the "crown of the world", but in the process, the world which they are trying to conquer is being destroyed, what will be left of this world once they have achieved capturing it?(which no one ever will). Is this not counter productive/intuitive?

A perfect example: Go to any fast food restaurant at night while they are closing and check the dumpster. They throw TONS of food away every night. Go to your local supermarket and check the dumpster. TONS of good food.

Now what about those starving people? There is food for them, its just that no one cares enough to bring it to them.

Well, thats where technology comes in.

But of course, all of the technology for transporting stuff is reserved for the stupid military and their dumb little bombs right?

We can create networks to feed people, we can create networks to accomplish anything. There are technologies far superior to oil in terms of energy output.

There was that guy who invented the hydrogen torch "assassinated and his works stolen. The magnet motor..

We all know about nikola tesla and the transmission of wireless electricity, and the foolish edison who was such a crybaby he suppressed Tesla. They have tesla's technology. They are hoarding it, hiding it from the world.

Teslas energy technology could be used to power tools so that we can create homes underground, on the ocean etc!

But no... We cant, because we are governed by ignorant cowards who are afraid of their own shadow.

Afraid of their own humanity.

So dont spew your overpopulation nonsense, because thats what it is.

Check the link Op - I posted this story yesterday
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Might be worth a read - if you are interested in this topic

I have approached it from a positive view point, given facts and figures for the over population debate (1.2% world growth and been falling for more than 40years (except Africa)

Keen to see if you agree with me or not,

Its not a judgement, its an observation.

Putting the prices and the side effects aside, is it really worth it to live longer? With crimes and war running rampant, even with a longer lifespan their is really no guarantee that something won't kill you.
