Another vessel with people on board disappeared in Lake Baikal. Now a search and rescue team is looking for a pleasure boat Yamaha that went into the lake with four men on board on 16 June and still has not returned. Everyone says that the men were experienced sailors. However, some do not believe that the crew will return as it disappeared in the most mysterious area of Lake Baikal.

The boat left a village in Kabansk area of Buryatia with four men on board. They were supposed to return soon, as they went to try a new motor for a small boat, but all contact with them was lost almost immediately after their departure. As reported to Pravda by the Main Emergency Center in Buryatia, on Monday the search was conducted by seven rescuers with seven pieces of equipment, on Tuesday the search was continued by a different party near Cape Saint Nose and in the bays of Barguzin Chivyrkuy; searches are conducted by Mi-8 helicopter.

The age of the missing men is from 35 to 63, they are experienced people, and a short way out into the lake should have been easy for them. Why are they gone, and without a trace? Their phones are out of the network (although the reception within the area of the lake is perfect for all mobile operators). The local press has already voiced a theory that they were lost in the fog that came in after their departure.

Now, I know your thinking "so what? A boat goes missing." But here is another interesting story about the lake.

Source

It sounds like the classic science movie The Abyss - only in Russian.

The Russian Navy has declassified its records of UFO encounters, many of which take place in or around water, reports the Web site of the English-language Russian news channel Russia Today.

"They are most often seen in the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean, in the southern part of the Bermuda Triangle, and also in the Caribbean Sea," said one naval intelligence officer quoted by the Web site.

Another incident cited involved six unknown objects that followed a nuclear submarine in the Pacific. When the sub surfaced, so did the objects - which then lifted themselves out of the water and flew away.

In perhaps the most compelling account, military divers in Siberia's Lake Baikal, the world's deepest lake, encountered "a group of humanoid creatures dressed in silvery suits" at a depth of 160 feet. Three humans died during the ensuing chase.

Now that's an awesome story.

Although it seems as though this could possibly be just a boat going missing in a lake, or there could be something more sinister at play here.

I have never heard of the Russian Navy story before so I thought I would do a double thread here as they both tie together as they are about the same lake.

Interesting story none the less so I thought I would share it with all of you.

Any thoughts?

There's supposed to be a lot of trapped methane and carbon in Russia. Supposedly, a lot of that is coming out from the permafrost melting.

I saw a documentary on discovery channel one time about the Bermuda Triangle. One hypothesis was methane bubbles sank the ships and caused planes to stall. In a small-scale experiment, a methane bubble made a toy ship sink in a matter of seconds. My money's on one of those methane bubbles being the culprit.

For the disappearance of the vessel? Methane is a possibility of course pending if there is methane deposits underneath this particular lake, but, you would think the sailors could swim and would not end up drowning, no?

The lake itself doesn't seem that daunting that you could not, in a life or death situation, swim to one side, to just disappear is weird to me?

Got any thoughts on the Silvery people?

I did a quick Wikipedia search of the lake, and I have to say that it is quite interesting, to say the least.

Lake Baikal (Russian: о́зеро Байка́л Ozero Baykal, pronounced [ˈozʲɪrə bʌjˈkɑl]; Buryat: Байгал нуур, Mongolian:Байгал нуур, Baygal nuur, meaning "nature lake"[3]) is the world's oldest[4] and deepest lake at 30 million years old and with an average depth of 744.4 metres.

Wiki

Not only is it massive, but it contains 20% of the world's unfrozen fresh water. At over 12,000 square miles its smaller than some of the Great Lakes, but its still huge.

Just for some background.

As for my opinion, it is quite....mysterious to say the least. For that many men to disappear without a trace, as experienced sailors, it raises alarms.

That and the cell phone reception thing. That sent chills down my spine. Although, if the phones were to be underwater I guess they would be out of the network haha.

Alien Grays or the Reptilian Humanoids who are in league with Grays. Yes they can swim, and their craft can go underwater. This is nothing new.

Good to see Russia releasing info, but they released the Secret KGB files and no-one has taken notice, so who seriously will care about his?

Anyone fancy taking a boat out there to find out?

There's so little information on this military operation in 1982 it's hard to believe. Where can one find these "now public" records of the incident? I'm sure there's more detail to it than the one paragraph on all websites.

This case is discussed here: www.abovetopsecret.com...

The recurring unanswered question seems to be:

Does it state anywhere how these creatures killed and injured the divers?

And no-one seems to be able to answer it. RIP the boat men though, who knows what happened to them.

Edit: A slightly more detailed version of the report says they died because of decompression:

In 1982 the Russians were conducting underwater swimming and diving tests. The divers were from the Turkestan and Central Asian military regions. The tests were being conducted at the Issik Kul Lake, which is a very deep water lake in the Transillysk Ala Tau area.

A very high ranking officer showed up unexpectedly. He was the general in charge of the Military Diver Service. Guess what he wanted? He was there to inform the officers of an event that had taken place. It seems that a training mission had taken place in the Trans-Baikai and West Siberian military regions. During the training that was taking place there, mysterious underwater swimmers were spotted.

They looked human but were about 10 feet tall. They were dressed in silvery suits and were in freezing water. Here is an even more amazing fact, they were swimming at a dept of about 170 feet and had no equipment of any kind, except for helmets. A group of Russian swimmers tried to capture one of these beings. When they got close an unknown force shot them up to the surface.

This caused the Russian swimmers to need decompression, but the Russian had only one chamber available that worked and it only held two people. Four people were forced into the chamber and three died.

Pravda in Russian means "truth," which is hilarious because it is anything but.

to me sounds like a terrible boating accident. The Great Lakes have storms that sink ships.
normally it's a malfunction of some sort and weather or a rare mother nature event that is to blame.

When there are no survivors incomes the imagination
I'm still waiting for the guy on a raft saying, their was a huge UFO that zapped the ship and took my friends away I was just lucky that I was in the crapper when the UFO came.

That's the lake where Putin went in a submersible and came out and said something cryptic. Also, there are photos of disc shapes having entered/exited the ice at both ends of the lake.

Yep,
Interesting no doubt.

I also found his statements after coming back to the surface a bit 'cryptic".

After descendeding 1,400 meters (4,600 ft) below the surface of the world's deepest lake,

"I haven't seen anything like that in my whole life. This is a very special feeling," Putin told reporters on emerging from the deep-sea craft looking pale and a bit dizzy after spending more than 4.5 hours underwater. Asked if he planned to travel in space after his supersonic flight and deep-sea dive, Putin, said, "No, there is enough work here on earth."

Thanks for the post OP.

What's cryptic about saying you've never seen anything like it when you've never seen anything like it?

People who don't dive say the same thing he 1st time they go in a glass bottomed boat!!

Lake Baikal is a big lake, and very deep. Boats sometimes disappear in large bodies of water.

more info required - such as what size / type of vessel , what age and condition it was in

what saftey equipment they carried

details on the " new engine " - because i have had first hand experience of ` seatrails with a new engine ` ending in disaster due to a fuel line leak starting a fire

if you ommit enough details - any event starts to look mysterious

Remembers something about this....

Lake Baikal UFO Encounter
the article reports in 1982 case, "a group of military divers training at Baikal spotted a group of humanoid creatures dressed in silvery suits. The encounter happened at a depth of 50 meters, and the divers tried to catch the strangers. Three of the seven men died, while four others were severely injured."

a11news.com...

And

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin plunged to the bottom of Lake Baikal in Siberia aboard a mini-submarine in a highly publicised media stunt. Putin dived to a depth of around 1,400 metres and returned to the surface after four hours underwater.

Why do scientists always come up with these ridiculous "explanations" for strange events? There so much in the world that HAS NOT been explored that almost anything can exist in the ocean or some large body of water. Just like people who say these creatures dont exist cuz no one has seem them, im gonna say it WASNT a methane bubble....until someone has actually seen it

I do remember hearing there were lights seen leaving the lake but I dont know. Not soon after tho Putin went down there.

At the weekend Putin, 56, climbed into a cramped mini-submarine and dove almost a mile under the earth's surface to the murky bottom of Lake Baikal, the world's largest and deepest body of fresh water, which lies in the heart of Siberia.

Here is some more info on the largest body of fresh water on earth, at 1600 meters deep it holds 1/20th of the world's natural resources. It continues to grow to this day, mostly deeper as a crevice continues development. Seems like it would be a good choice for USO's or stargate, purely speculative of course

Anyway, fascinating stuff thanks!

Here is a 20 minute bit from a documentary:

Because it's a very plausible and reproducible solution which makes it inherently better than saying some sea monster or aliens from the deep are responsible... that's how rationality works.. it's just a theory though, nobody said it IS methane.. it's just a sane, plausible and testable theory ... just so happens to bore those who want it to be E.T. in scuba gear.
