Iran secretly tested 'nuclear-capable missiles'

LONDON — Iran has carried out secret tests of ballistic missiles capable of delivering a nuclear payload in breach of UN resolutions, British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Wednesday.

Hague's comments came a day after Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards said they had fired 14 missiles in an exercise, one of them a medium-range weapon capable of striking Israel or US targets in the Gulf.

In a statement to lawmakers, Hague said: "Iran has also been carrying out covert ballistic missile tests and rocket launches, including testing missiles capable of delivering a nuclear payload in contravention of UN resolution 1929."

He said Iran had also announced plans to triple its capacity to produce 20 percent enriched uranium, adding: "These are enrichment levels far greater than is needed for peaceful nuclear energy.

"We will maintain and continue to increase pressure on Iran to negotiate an agreement on their nuclear programme," including sanctions, he said.

There was no immediate reaction from Tehran, which denies Western claims that it is pursuing nuclear weapons under the guise of its civil atomic programme.

On Tuesday Iranian state media said the Revolutionary Guards fired nine Zelzal missiles, two Shahab-1s, two Shahab-2s and a single medium-range Ghadr on the second day of their Great Prophet-6 exercise.

On the first day of the exercise on Monday, the Guards unveiled an "underground missile silo" which they said was designed for launching their medium-range missiles, state television reported.

Didnt see this one coming... Whats even more intresting is the accusations are coing from the UK Foreign Secretary. They are now claiming Iran is in breech of UN REsolution 1929.

He is also pointing out that Iran enrichment level of 20% is above levels needed for Irans declared uses.

An intresting time for this article to come out (about 2 hours ago). Its coming on the heels of the growing tensions between Ahminadejad and the Ayatollah and specualtion there says Ahminedejad will be forced to step down.

Lots of coincidences lately with IRan.

I see they don't keep secrets very well...

I really hope we just let Syria do what they do....

I would say this bleating is all part of the Master plan for the ME.

They've been looking for an excuse to invade Syria and Iran, and this will probably be the start of a long process of further UN resolutions culminating in an invasion.

Palestine will then be further isolated and this will be right up the Israelis street.

I did notice an article today on The drudge report about Israels retired top spy chief making comments about IRan.

There was also an article about the US giving Syria warnings about their troops on the border with Turkey. Torkey has also summoned the Syrian Ambassador to Turkey to say it in person.

Also, Turkey and Israel on once again mending fences and have restablished some ties.

Lots of small conincideces coming form that area lately.

And this is bad how?

I don't see why so many people want to be friendly with a country who obviously would destroy us given a chance.

I was under the impression that Iran reported the missile launches, but not the testing of what is being refered to in the article?

This is part of UNR 1929

Acting under Article 41 of Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, the Council determined that the Iranian government had yet to meet the requirements of previous Security Council resolutions and IAEA requirements. It affirmed that Iran should immediately co-operate with the IAEA on all outstanding issues, particularly with regards to activity at Qom, clarifications on a possible military use of the nuclear program and granting unrestricted access to all sites, persons, equipment and documents requested by the IAEA. The Council also decided that Iran should comply with the Safeguards Agreement with the IAEA, not undertake any further reprocessing, heavy water-related or enrichment-related activities or acquire commercial interests in other states involving uranium mining or use of nuclear materials and technology.

Further provisions of the resolution included:[4]

Iran could not participate in any activities related to ballistic missiles.

Hauge is an idiot, he said they were testing nuclear missles, they tested a missile that "could" potentially facilitate a nuclear warhead. there is no proof or evidence to even hint that Iran is arming nuclear weapons. The US/UK media have been trying to paint Iran as the bad guy for years now. this doesnt surprise me.

Have you ever asked yourself why they would? Why they hate the U.S so much?

If so, have you ever researched the history of the ME?

I do not condone terrorists, never have , never will, but I can see why they are upset with the Western World in general.

Here is an article I read today from the jerusalem post, it concerns the recent comments
by ex mossad chief 'Meir Dagan' and the storm of criticism he is recieving from the Israeli
media and political leaders. Dagan is saying that he, along with other high profile people
inside mossad, shin bet and the IDF prevented an attack on Iran's nuclear facility's last
year, disobeying or countermanding direct orders from the Isreali government.
It also gives a fascinating insight of the turmoil within Israel's military/political elite,
and how they should solve the Iranian standoff.
On the one side you have you have Mossad/IDF/Shin bet who see a conflict with Iran as
complete madness, and on the other side benjamin netanyahu, Ehud barak/goverment
who seem determined to blast Iran's nuclear sites into oblivion, with or without the united
states backing.
link.www.jpost.com...
I think the situation we are headed for is truly terrifying if the politicians in Isreal win this
argument and bomb Iran.

What do you think of whats going on?
Another link saying mossad/idf stopped attack.

Iran has said that its latest exercise is not aimed at any country but carries "a message of peace and friendship."

I love this quote from the article.... Did anyone else catch this?
LMAO!!!!! I always shoot missles to display my friendship and think that it is a more effective method of symbolising peace than say offering assistance to anyone else in the world. Maybe they should hang some of their outstanding citizens in an act of celebrating patriotisim???

We are on the edge of the cliff of global war. Does anyone else feel this way? I turn on the news everyday as of late to see if we have succeded in blowing it up.

I pitty our race and it's ability to hate each other because of our differences.

Peace and love

I have researched the Middle East have you?

Do you recall a little Empire called the Ottoman Empire and their pushes into Europe and the horrors they brought? We could go even further back in history to some of their other conquests if you like also.

The point is that they have a long history of their own force being applied to other countries so using the argument that they are just reacting to U.S. aggression is not exactly correct. They are as guilty of the same things were doing today only difference is they use terrorists and we drop bombs.

Then you would know that the Arabs got an extremely raw deal at the end of WWI. Having been promised, that by assisting the Allies fight and attack the Turks (remnants of the Ottaman Empire) in what is now called Syria, they would be given much of the ME and form their own country Arabia.

However, during the negotiations at the Treaty of Versaille, they were dumped on and France took what is currently known as Syria, whilst the U.K took Palestine and what is now known as Iraq.

Then after WWII Palestine was dumped on. The U.S sanctioning the State of Israel to be formed. Not content with that however, they have pushed out past the boundaries that were originally set, all with the backing of the West, U.S, U.K, France, Canada etc, etc.

So yes there is a lot of History and yes we can go back centuries, but I think you will find it is the more recent History i.e Carter's Presidency that the real hatred from Iran began.

There never was any formal set borders of Israel. When the civil war broke out in Israel, coupled with Arab invasion, the lines where they stopped at the cease fire was pretty much the border. In 67 Israel captured more territory. The Sinai was returned to Egypt with the caveat it must be demilitarized.

The Golan Heights were a seperate issue between Israel and Syria.

Gaza strip and the West Bank were held as a bargaining tactic.

Israel said they would release those areas if the arab governments would recognize Israels right to exist as well as sign peace treaties.

The Arabs said no, and here we are today.

By the way, during the creation of Israel there was a Palestinian State as well. The Arab governments rejected it.
