Longtime Mobster 'James Whitey Bulger' Arrested!

abcnews.go.com

After his arrest, Bulger consented to a search of his apartment, Martinez said. When agents followed up, they found he was housing enough weapons -- including sawed-off shotguns, pistols and AR 15 assault rifles -- for a small gangland war, law enforcement sources told ABC News. He also had a bundle of cash "secreted in the apartment" totaling approximately $800,000, Martinez said.

Ok, so the title of the Headline didn't appeal to me so I made the title different. I take no credit for writing this article, duhhh...

Anyways, maybe we've all seen the movie The Departed where Jack Nicholas plays the role of Boston's notorious, James 'Whitey' Bulger, a mobster who had ratted on his rivals in order to keep himself safe while he was being an FBI informant.

The way they nabbed the infamous mobster was by putting out a commercial in the local area where it was believed that Bulger and his wife were living under false identities. In this commercial, Bulger wasn't targeted, his wife was. It said, "If you've seen this woman, please call ###-###-####". A lady who lived next to them had seen the commercial and reported to the officials.

After hearing about this, I gotta go watch The Departed again. Great movie and I HIGHLY recommend all of ATS to watch it. It'll be a classic...actually, I think it is a classic.

That's all!

This is not breaking news.

He was arrested last week, and there were several topics on ATS about this.

Really? That's why I did a search before this and NOTHING came up about him being arrested. And I didn't say he wasn't arrested last week and didn't say he was arrested this week. It IS breaking news because this man has been on the run for MANY years.

EDIT: You're logic is flawed

I would have to agree, this is not breaking news. Just about anyone in Santa Monica or Boston has been aware of this for almost a week.
You mention The Departed. It is worth noting that when The Departed was in theaters, Whitey was spotted catching a showing of it in California, I believe even maybe in Santa Monica. Wonder why they didn't put the pieces of the puzzle together then? And it looks like maybe I am not the only person wondering, a Mass. congressman is calling for an investigation into how the arrest happened so quickly after the FBI launched their ads searching for Catherine Greig, Bulger's girlfriend NECN: Lynch wants investigation into Bulger arrest

Don't mean to derail the thread but I live in Alabama and this was on the nightly news probably 3 or 4 days ago.

That being said, if you found no other threads, I don't blame you for adding your own.

I dont know what kind of search you did but all I did was type "bulger" into the search and found plenty of threads from a week ago.

Why is nobody talking about this?

Whitey Bulger was an FBI informant. He helped the Boston FBI take down the Italian Mafia in Boston. In turn, his FBI handlers tipped him off to police investigations, activities of other local mobsters, and they also tipped him off to his pending indictment in 1995.

With the help of the FBI, Whitey murdered at least 19 people, some women and kids. He also helped to flood the streets of Boston with drugs. Without the assistance of the FBI, this monster would never have grown as big as he did. And we're supposed to believe that the FBI, all of a sudden, found him living in Santa Monica? That sounds just as reasonable as the Pakistani's not knowing about bin Laden hiding in Abbottabad.

Just as I suspected, shortly after his capture, there were articles popping up saying that Whitey was suffering from dementia and possibly Alzheimer's. How convenient for the FBI, who subsidized this brutal serial killer for decades.

I thought ATS would be going CRAZY over this. The whole thing has conspiracy written all over it. Yet when I do a search, this is all that turns up. What is going on here?

P.S.
The Departed has NOTHING to do with Whitey Bulger whatsoever. Scorcese used the story as inspiration, but NOTHING in that movie accurately portrays Whitey or his FBI handlers. In fact, the Departed is based on a Japanese movie. Please stop making the connection between Whitey and the Departed. There is none.
