Bugs for sure, you can see them on the close up.

Certainly not mist.

could be ballooning batch of spiders. If so, it is a good picture of something like that.
Mist, don't see it...too constant for a mist.

Wow...I was expecting something easily identifiable...but, wow...that is just strange. I suppose it's obviously bugs of some kind, though I've never seen that phenomenon before (not that I'm suggesting I'm an expert of such things of course) I've seen huge flocks of birds fly like that...in an almost organic undulation, as if they were one large creature...but I've never seen insects do it....I suppose it's a possibility it it really is birds, and they are father away...sort of an optical illusion, I guess...but it sure looks like a bunch of tiny insects flying off the top of that tree, so unless I see a compelling argument otherwise that's what I'll assume I'm seeing....

Very cool video! Regular ol' everyday nature can at times be surprisingly beautiful and quite mysterious!

I am thinking bugs, perhaps they all hatched and flew
away at the same time. Otherwise I am thinking some
kind of pollen. Definitely not a mist but it would probably
look like it if it were in front of you. I just hope they are
not biting bugs - the mosquitos are bad this year we
don't need any more biting bugs. I love insects -
so cool and mysterious as this video shows.

Going with cherry blossom petals caught in an updraft. Lots of blossoms on the West Coast (literally covers the streets and sidewalks like snow) so depends when this was taken.

Looks like a whole bunch of white moths or butterflies.

That is my simple thought, anyway.

i think its just a weather balloon

definitely insects i have seen many different types of insects do exactly this... they are forming a mob from several trees it is a mass hatching is all.

i have seen it with ants and termites and bees swarming etc.

it is rather cool to watch though...

That's definitely some kind of bug, spiders? I sure as h*** hope not.

Check it, that's the burning bush Moses talked too.

I'm sure the noise from it was easily noticeable, add dehydration and hunger to the point of hallucination and you have yourself a plausible explanation of the burning bush story in the bible.

Wow! That's wild. It looks like some kind of mass that's interconnected, though. It ripples in the wind like a flag and doesn't break away in separate pieces. I have no idea what that might be.

Phil Seagran, the guy who originally posted this video recently uploaded a comment to
the reposting of his original video by Sheilaaliens (Thats the same one you link to BTW) that seems to have solved the mystery.....
"I'm the guy who shot the video this morning & posted it on The Weather Channel's iWitness Weather - looks like your reposting is quite popular. These flying critters were confirmed to be newly-hatched termites with white/translucent wings. I should have my landlord check into it as the redwood looks healthy, but looks are deceiving."

So, I guess the mystery is solved.....Termites.....Yikes! Termites!!!
I'd hate to see that many Termites anywhere near where I live!!!
