Wow, I Just Joined ATS and Can't Believe What I Am Seeing

I just joined ATS, after years of reading through some of the most interesting forums, I figured why not join in. Since I have joined I have seen multiple threads closed down for "review" from moderators when the topics got to hot. Whats the deal with this? I thought this was a site for free thinking and free expression? It seems like as soon as the topics stray to far away for the PC way of thinking that's it, closed.?

As I understand it, it's all about Ad Revenue and pleasing the "bosses". ATS use to value free speech but is quickly becoming a corporate sellout. This place is going downhill fast. Good post.

A majority of moderators review the topics when they get too hot especially if there is profanity and disrespect between members are involved. One thing I know, ATS does not tolerate any racism or disrespect between members, so that's probably reason why the forums are under review to see if it is legit to be allowed. Don't worry about it, I'd say 95% of the time it doesn't happen, there are a couple of ding dongs on the website who occasionally decide to disrespect other ATS members and that's usually what happens. Hope this helps.

I'm actually rather new to ATS all the way around. I've been in the blogs and chat rooms for many years but ATS is a new forum to participate and so far, I love it.

The moderators are a little heavy at times from what I have personally seen here, but after coming from other sites with little to no moderation at all, I'll happily take the mods here erring on the side of caution to the anarchy and chaos of other places. Just my thoughts...

I wouldn't go that far, if they really wanted to, they could just shut down the entire site! lol There are some crazy members on here who think they can disrespect others and sometimes they just cross the line haha

Welcome , but don't expect to see much on ATS.

We are the ordinary people in outside world in the best approximation , otherwise we are Intelligent or disinformation Agents .

I am also a new user, and thing might be strange but I like that ATS moderates threads. I have been on a number of other conspiracy sites recently and I have to say without moderation it almost appears like the IQ level of the members takes a serious hit.

There are loads of different conspiracy forums on the internet ATS is probably the largest but if you don’t like the level of moderation I don’t understand why you don’t just leave for another website. That’s what I would do, the day I start to think ATS is over doing it with the moderation I will be outa hear. Right now though I am very happy to have off topic posts removed and a zero tolerance policy on vile language.

Actually, having been on the site for almost 6 years, I have to agree with EagleTalonz. He (or she) and I have both been here long enough to see the effect ad revenue has had on what ATS used to be. It was shortly after the implementation of adverts, and the subsequent 'change,' that I went from spending almost all my 'net time on ATS to maybe checking a couple times a week.

Don't get me wrong. The mods were always very efficient in clamping down on trolling, negative behaviour and the like. Someone was being racist/sexist/homophobic/etc, and the mods would swoop down like Valkyries and pierce them with a spear of justice! It was awesome.
Now they seem to lock down on anything which could affect the income that adverts bring. It's worrying.

Would you prefer ATS became a pay site? As in, you pay to view the forums? Because without ads that's what ATS would have to become to pay the bills. Servers don't run themselves you know

Yes I would actually. In addition to the fact we wouldn't need to rely on adverts any more, it'd also weed out the people who join up specifically to initiate a hoax. People are a lot less willing to pull an internet prank if its gonna cost 'em.

There are threads started by hateful flamers whose very titles are extremely racist and sexist with no redeeming value what so ever except to disparage the ethnic minority, the women or the homosexual and invite others to do the same.
If any of the ethnic minorities, the women or the homosexuals respond unkindly or uncivilly (as one might expect) to the THREAD that was uncivil, baiting and flaming to start with...THEIR posts are removed and a violation is issued for an OFF TOPIC post or for being disrespectful to the OP.

It is subtle and I don't think all mods are on the same page with this but you can see it is evidently a great way to weed out the ethnic minorities, the women and the homosexuals. Bait them with flaming threads and them pick at them, insult and disparage and get them to respond. Then post ban them. Eventually they will get discouraged and leave ATS to the whites, almost white and real men.

Not saying ATS intentionally weeds out the ethnic minorities, the homosexuals, the peaceful pacifists or the women but that this is what I see happening on many of these hateful and aggravating threads, started on an unfair, idiotic or completely wrong premise to begin with and then are allowed to remain open for conversation. Why? Just to see what happens?

I forgot about the advertisement element, that explains it. The threads I saw get closed down were not even that bad though? Racism is such a loose term anymore, a simple comment about race can be seen by some as racism and that's crazy.

I've also seen a lot of threads closed for review. They all had loads of T&C violations, I can't see why all these threads are popping up slamming the closing of threads that violate the terms and conditions of the site. It seems like a lot of people have been joining up to criticize the running of the site....not making any accusations though.

Look, I didn't join to criticize the site at all, I love ATS, I just wanted to see what others thought about the censorship going on, that's all. We are all adults, when you debate certain issues it sometimes stirs certain feelings, we all need to exercise our self control when dealing with these things.

Censorship yes they deleted many many comments i made. i mean really

They aint weeded this woman out yet.
