Ladies and Gentlemen...Fasten your seatbelts...

Hello fellow friends,

ATS member Sonofthesun joined a year ago, June 22nd 2010, and I remember well.

And it's this time of the year again. School is just about finished. And the inside walls of ATS' Aliens and UFO board are about to be inundated with very interesting debates.

Why even mention a thread on this? Three good reasons.

As the flow of threads will increase in the next few weeks, I would like to recommend a few options to new posts that we will see day after day...



First, numerous youtube videos that have been seen a hundred thousand times. I recommend stating the ATS Search. I recommend posting a previous thread on the subject. No need to flame, insult or belittle.

Second, numerous outlandish wild claims will flood the board. I recommend using logic, common sense and appropriate questioning to the claim. No need to be rude, arrogant or emotionally explosive.

Third, false stories and hoaxes will increase as the days go by. I recommend using the Alert button, alerting the staff and mods. They handle it wisely and take appropriate action. No need to call names, curse and start a war.



I have seen very good members quit this forum last year over this. I have seen very good members get banned last year over this. Sad, really but let's not forget one thing.

All (or most of) these numerous newcomers will be very young. They do not have the experience you have. They have not been on ATS as long as you have. And most are willing to learn.



Be an example.

Show some good Leadership.

Respect and courtesy should be the attitude.



I've almost lost it last year with one guy. Logged off for a while. Took some fresh air. Came back to realize that he's allowed to have his own opinions even though they differ from mine. If I can do this, everyone can.

I wish someone warned me about this exact same problem but into 9/11 stuff.
And yeah, they are pretty young and weak to say the least, its almost funny.
I was wondering if theres an ignore button to use against this same problem because i have a feeling that ima repeat myself alot this summer.

Personally I ignore members like you mentioned so it doesn't bother me all that much. You can't please everyone and more and more people join ATS daily and yes many are idiots but they are still here, just learn to ignore it. I also don't look at many posts that involve youtube videos because most are crap and all people do is argue and yell and when you do point out the truth with evidence they still deny it....Mars anomalies are my favorite but it seems people think everything on Google Mars is a base or some ancient site...Google Mars is not the place to look for that but they STILL think it's what they think even though it's been pointed out many times what it is...

Ok sorry for my little rant but the fastening of the seat belts happened a while ago

Funny enough, I had already had that thought regarding a few posters-wondered if they may have been home schooled kids Raising a large family I have become like a duck...every thing is water off my back.

Im glad you made this thread because I have somthing to say regarding this topic.
I've noticed alot of senior members getting royaly pissed at other(mostly new) members for some of their thoughts, ideas and opinions. To me this is very counterproductive because I see the senior members here more as teachers and new members as students. A teacher that has gone through all their classes and have mastered their subject of expertese will not yell and scream at their students for not fully comprehending the subject to which they are discussing.

So lets be teachers and students, not flamers and dumba$$'s

Happens every year without fail. We have to expect it i guess. However, As one member up above just stated its not just this time of year when these people are here. it happens all the time. We should ALWAYS be on the lookout for this type of thing.

Great job on the post, keep it up. Not enough people take this topic seriously.

One I need to learn properly.

It's too easy to assume the newest over the top fiasco is yet another troll with no intent of valid contribution - but none of us can really know that.

The ignore button is gone. I miss it at times...but on the other side, it could be beneficial. That kid that drove me nuts last year ended up on my ignore list. After they modified the site with the new version (ditching the ignore feature), it just happened that I started reading some of his replies on other boards and I liked some of his answers.

Just don't tell him.

There are always trolls, constant in and out. But I did notice a surge during last summer. The delusional and fantasists had a blast !!

It is also true that experienced seasoned members don't post with flowers and fluffs...very direct and borderline arrogant at times. But if one listens, they are the best teachers around here.
