Jerusalem rabbis 'condemn dog to death by stoning'

A Jewish rabbinical court condemned to death by stoning a stray dog it feared was the reincarnation of a lawyer who insulted its judges, reports say.

The dog entered the Jerusalem financial court several weeks ago and would not leave, reports Israeli website Ynet.

It reminded a judge of a curse passed on a now deceased secular lawyer about 20 years ago, when judges bid his spirit to enter the body of a dog.

The animal is said to have escaped before the sentence was carried out.

One of the judges at the court in the city's ultra-Orthodox Mea Shearim neighbourhood had reportedly asked local children to carry out the sentence.

Those nutjobs should be sent to a nuthouse. Seriously. This is insane. Not even the Taliban do this kind of insanity.

Those nutjobs are RABBIS? Meaning they actually give advice to people? Crazy.

What strikes me the most is the sheer appalling amount of arrogance they must have to think that such a thing would happen simply because they bid it be so.

Actually the soldier in question does not represent me and is in no way a hero.
I wish him to be hung by his tiny bits until dead.
He was a pitiful excuse for human skin.

I guesss you have to read the post slowly, the people who wanted the dog killed were religious leaders and they wanted the dog killed because they thought the dog was "haunted" by the spirit of a lawyer. I think lawyers are sorta scary, but people who grow up scared and stupid are even scarier! But I guess that's what happens to you when your concept of good and evil comes out of a book that some guy wrote!

Yeah Taliban do this, but they still don't kill animals just because they think they are possessed.

So, what are the laws on animal abuse in Israel? 'Cause I'd think encouraging people to kill a dog by beating it with rocks certainly counts.

This does not suprise me atall. It is the kind of barbarism that paved the way for Christ's crucifixion and the persecution of Christians in the wake of that.

Orthodox Judaism in the modern sense is as extreme as fundamental Islam. Give them both a stone and let them throw them at eachother.

How cruel these people are who are supposed to be moral and spiritual. A joke, simple as that.

Some (very dumb) kids threw stones at the dog near the rabbi's court. The rabbi heard about it and called the Israeli SPCA.
The dog is alive and well.

If you know Hebrew, than there are plenty of sources on that story to clarify what had happened.

I am beginning to get extremely aggravated by religion. It is one thing, and quite normal I might add, to believe that the sheer vastness, complexity, and beauty of everything that exists was created by an all-powerful being...But religion has continued in its archaic practices until modern times, where man tries to impose his will through divine forgery, for lack of a better term. I just cannot believe that people believe that God, a CREATOR, would want people going around killing people and stoning dogs.

This has got be a hoax of some kind.

If not, then it is just another example of why there must always be separation between Church and State...and why crime & punishment must be secular.

Jewish courts, Islamic courts, Christian courts...all bad ideas.
