Britain faces no serious threat, yet keeps waging war. While big defence exists, glory-hungry politicians will use it

Why do we still go to war? We seem unable to stop. We find any excuse for this post-imperial fidget and yet we keep getting trapped. Germans do not do it, or Spanish or Swedes. Britain's borders and British people have not been under serious threat for a generation. Yet time and again our leaders crave battle. Why?

Last week we got a glimpse of an answer and it was not nice. The outgoing US defence secretary, Robert Gates, berated Europe's "failure of political will" in not maintaining defence spending. He said Nato had declined into a "two-tier alliance" between those willing to wage war and those "who specialise in 'soft' humanitarian, development, peacekeeping and talking tasks". Peace, he implied, is for wimps. Real men buy bombs, and drop them.

God we're retarded.

Why would we not create a fictitious enemy when we can make a ton of money and find any reason to give more money to big corporations? Makes no sense.

The fact that there is so many simultaneous wars going on right now throughout the world would say that we are doing something wrong. But, no one is paying attention anymore. They have people working so many hours just to make ends meet that no one has enough time to even spend a little bit with their kids anymore.

No one in North America or Europe is free anymore unless they are rich. We are all slaves and have to work daily just to live nowadays.

We bankrupt our countries going to wars that mean nothing, was anyone paying attention to the USSR? Did this not happen to them 20 or so years ago? And wait, it had something to do with Afghanistan? Well...I said it before, we are just dumb. Maybe we deserve what is coming, no one is willing to stand up for what they believe anymore. No one is willing to go against the grain and maybe be the odd one out.

Wars solve nothing. They only create more problems and more hatred. The fact that we fight for peace is just ridiculous. Really, think about that sentence....

It won't be long before we have a Second American Civil War. By that time the defense industry will have REAL enemies.

Same old same old, man has always been at war. All it does is destroy lives, and mother earth. Greed and corruption is all around and snowballing, maybe we would be better off if the world did go KABOOOMMMM!!!!

While I too think sometimes it would be better if things just went "kaboom" I would try and avoid it if given a chance. People need to stop being brainwashed into thinking that war will solve all the problems. So many people support wars because they are not quite sure what the real reason behind the wars are. And, the sad part is, most people don't even care.

As long as it does not affect them then there is no problem. But, it does. The debt from wars and defense is going to bankrupt the U.S., it will make it so they are going to default and then it will affect everyone. Hopefully something will be done before then, but it's not very likely.

People need to be affected to do anything, that is what our culture has become, as pathetic as that sounds...

Fight for peace?? It makes more sense to fornicate for virginity. Think about that. By fornicating we can create more virgins. Fighting does not create "peace." Being the schoolyard bully does not make the schoolyard a better place, except for the bully perhaps.
