Ok I am probably going to make a fool of myself.. but i don't care, i just wanna know if anyone else has had something like this happen..

Okay, So I woke up this morning (early morning) and made my way downstairs. (almost tripping up and breaking something I must add)

Anyway, I look out my front window as I do every morning.. and to my surprise there is a big black dog in my garden... Sounds pretty normal right?

well its eyes looked messed up like bloodshot (rabies?) and my fences are about 7ft high with nothing to assist a jump over on either side, It didn't look violent or anything, but it didn't look right either, well i made a coffee and it was gone, without making noise? (bare in mind this is early morning and its very quiet out and my kitchen is right next to my garden)

I'm pretty sure my mind was playing tricks on me.. but it was definitely in my garden.

(I live on the south coast of the UK btw)

Weird.

Kinda reminds me of long-haul truckers who deprive themselves of sleep (to stay on schedule). They speak of seeing a black dog also.

Okay. This may sound silly or strange, but I believe that creature is a messenger. I occasionally get a messenger in the form of a cat. Sometimes I cannot see it, but it rubs against my leg or needs on me, I feel it but it is not visible. Usually, when the cat comes around, someone I love becomes ill, or dies. I never know who it is when the cat comes around, I just know someone I love is in trouble.

I am sure you saw the dog and he was warning you about something.

Just be mindful of the things around you and you will know what he was warning you about soon enough.

Can you be certain it was a dog?

It may have been a big cat, there have been reports of big cats near the south coast, although i dont recall any recently. It would be worth having a camera kept handy in case it shows up again.

Hey RobbWonder, nice OP.

This kind of encounter is actually more common than you would think. I won't go into to much detail, instead I think you should check out this link here. It goes into detail on this topic as well as listing some of the various encounters over the years: Apparitions Of Black Dogs

You might find it to be an interesting read so you should check it out.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, It could very well be a normal dog you saw here so don't be quick to rule that out or anything.

Definitely not a cat, the face was canine (elongated snout?) quite a thick head though
I don't really know much about dog breeds, but I cant find any that look like it on google

I wonder if the dog you saw was a Neopolitan Mastiff or Cane Corso . Both breeds can have a problem with whats known as "cherry eye" , which gives them the appearance of red bloodshot eyes. Both breeds are very large with big broad heads, and black or black brindle is a common colour.

Hope this helps.

Robb to be honest without further details I could not / would not go scare mongering. However I would like to add my personal experience regarding a situation involving a large black dog like 'creature'. I have logged in just to share this experience with you as it still lingers in my mind.

At the time I was 13-14 living in a small country village with my father and step family. As usual I was babysitting my younger step brother and sister at home while the old man was down the local wine bar with his new partner. The home being a standard 3 bed semi with additional extension to the rear having a wash room store room with a conservatory. Out of the conservatory door was 'Maggies' house my beloved German Sheppard. She resided in a hand made kennel of the finest quality, having a heavy duty plastic flap the kind you get over loading bay areas, a cavity wall enclosure, carpeting and a side window for her enjoyment.

Maggie was a baby from my original German Sheppard 'Brutus' he was so gun ho I was the only member of the family he obeyed, resulting in his departure to HMRC as a sniffer dog. You see I want to make a point here, some things people are a natural with and with me it's animals especially dogs.

Back on topic... The evening was drawing in and just after dusk in the twilight things kicked off big time. I was cooking cheese and potato bake with some pies in the kitchen and the house just went mad! I need start off from this point so you can gain maybe some understanding as to the seriousness of my reply. The first thing that caught my attention being a wireless radio which started making a darn nasty sound. So I investigate replacing the battery and moving it close to the kitchen window still going crazy. Ok no problem I turn it off then the TV in the front room came on by itself full blast which to be honest scared the crap out of me. As I went into the front room most cautiously as you do my beloved Maggie started kicking off in the back garden.

Maggie was a most intelligent most caring dog ever full stop so what happened next to this day 20-21 years later I still can't fathom. She was tethered to the kennel with a lead made of wound heavy duty electrical cable and she was giving it her absolute all to get free and attack that which concerned her. She managed to wrap the leash around her neck a number of times attempting to escape. When I got to the rear door the sight of my dog standing high on her back legs pulling the leash tighter and tighter chocking her I then felt something I can't explain. I saw her aiming towards the shed area at the end of our garden and to be honest thought it must be a rabbit or something. So I go out the back door and clam her as best I can releasing her from the leash and locking her into the conservatory. I then walked out into the yard intending to investigate, however she kicked off again sending furniture all over the place ramming the glass again attempting an escape. So I went into the conservatory to clam her down. This is when I understood exactly why so was so vexed which was so out of fashion for her. As I knelt besides her calming her down watching the area she was aiming towards in the darkness I heard a sound which was simply monstrous, a deep grufferling howl which had a rumble like thunder. Maggie was not amused and almost got free of me and the conservatory, so as I was about to get up and take into the main house proper I saw something rather scary.

Half way down the garden by the shed were conifer trees and at the base of which I saw two glowing red orbs. At first I thought it was a light in the shed, a damped down fire. Nope as my eyes adjusted I noticed a stiletto a figure that looked hunched over dog like staring down the path towards us. At this point Maggie made a whimpering sound and those red orbs moved and elevated up into what I can only deem to be standing on it's hind legs about 8ft high. I stood shocked not so much in fear but total shock, the eyes glowed brighter emitting a deep red glow almost hypnotic.

I then took Maggie into the main house with the aim of calling the wine bar expressing the need for 'backup'. However it was not to be and the cause of this incident became apparent, which is another story.

Cutting a long story 'shorter' once my father was back at home he told me a story about a 'black beast' which was basically a devil dog in a human like form. He used the words I will never forget "an old family friend".

Robb I so hope what you experienced was nothing like that night I live with however my advice if you can? Get a dog! Mine would have died for me that evening and she knew well in advance something I did not.

Sorry, I have to ask...
Did you check for dog prints? Or leavings?
Need to know - though the absence of such proves nothing I might add.
Take care.

I'm glad your dog didn't get hurt!!, I am relieved to say my experience was not like yours, maybe if i had a dog it would have been different... to be fair i was half asleep, so the 'dog' in my garden seemed very normal to me at that moment (yes it was still there looking towards me when i re-checked)
but i have a sort of 'fear no evil' stance on life

@silo13 I will check to see if there are any prints or anything

Interesting. Last night whilst driving home into a rural outer suburb of Brisbane, I passed a black dog that was standing stock still on the side of the road. It appeared to be a german shepherd due to the apparent shape of its ears, but I can't be certain. The unusual part is, I had this strong urge to stop and observe it, I almost wish that I had now.

Thank you for that. It is a strange thing, but my mother, my grandmother and other family members (all women) all see or feel this cat and someone we love gets ill or worse.

Your butterfly is so awesome. That is such an obvious messenger to you. Neat!

Not trying to be a skeptic here but it still could have just been a normal dog. I used to own a dog that somehow managed to clean leap over our 7ft fence (now extended to 9ft).
I've seen some unusual things while working my job (Security Officer) doing my nightly patrols.

I know exactly what you mean about it not looking right. I may as well tell my story, but it makes me a little uneasy even now.

When I was 7 or 8 years old we lived in one of the most actively haunted houses I've ever lived in (I moved a lot) and I'm not sure if the house correlates with my story or not, but when we moved in the place was filthy and stunk like something had died in it (army accomodation, we complained but weren't moved for two months to another place). Wirey brown/black hair was everywhere, it looked like animal fur.

Anyway, I walked to school every morning through the same route through the other streets, and nearing the end of the two months I saw the black dog. It was no more than 200 feet from my house, sleek looking, like a doberman or a greyhound, really thin, long head and pitch black eyes. It had literally appeared in front of me. It couldn't have approached from side, that was all a long tall grey wall to the left and houses to the right, quite an open space. The trees were at the end of the street after the wall ended, leading up to garages, and the place was empty as far as I knew, because I was always checking due to "stranger danger." I must have looked away for a split second, then when I looked back it was just there, and it was huge. If it had jumped up on me, it would have been standing right over me.
I was a little startled, as it came close, didn't sniff, just opened its mouth and my little balled up fist ended up in there. I wasn't trying to punch it, but my fist was clenched and in mid air at this point, trying to put something between me and this mutt. I remember a strong heat from the mouth, the image of my hand in that dogs mouth is like a snapshot burned into my mind, and then suddenly I was 50 feet back from that point at a fence with full view of the area I was just in, but there was no dog and I was vomiting my guts out. For no reason I might add. I didn't feel ill before it, nor after it. I wasn't bitten, I had no drool on my hand and I should have had if it was in there.

It could have been a stray and I could have spewed due to a massive freak out, but it just doesn't sit right with me. No bite, no drool, didn't see that dog again, nor where it had appeared from, the vomit. Ugh, not one of my fondest memories.
