Looting breaks out as riots intensify in Vancouver

www.ctvbc.ctv.ca

Rioters left downtown Vancouver reeling from countless fires, widespread looting and numerous stabbings in the wake of a crushing loss for the Canucks Wednesday night.

Vancouver Police Const. Lindsey Houghton told CTV News that the crowd downtown Wednesday likely exceeded 100,000

The VPD's Const. Jana McGuinness denied that the situation was out of hand.

"People have gone to great lengths to damage our fine city," she told CTV News. "We didn't invite 100,000 people downtown without a plan."

This is what happens in Vancouver when we lose at hockey: 100,000 drunks ripping up the streets.

Just wait until the revolution comes here!

PS: watch the video in the link for some awesome video. It looks like a zombie film with all of the fire/crowded streets/riot police/looting/etc.

This is why I love my province

haha, you're quite right there.

I just find it ironic that drunk rioters do more damage over a hockey game than political rebels at the G20 summit in Toronto. I guess security is pretty lax in Vancouver though.

I wish I was there. I don't really care about the hockey part, but liberty I enjoy

Explain yourself.

Liberty you have.

Such a crowd affords the opportunity to engage in crime semi-anonymously but you are no more free than your were when you weren't in that crowd.

Explain how they aren't free; explain how 100,000 angst-filled, drunken rioters can be stopped (before tomorrow morning, anyways).

Government forces like the RCMP, city police and firefighters avoided the crowds.

Perhaps you just need to be from here to understand it.

TribeofManyColors-

Ouch, they shot that guy right in the balls. Looks like it could've been fireworks though.

As for the police brutality, it's apparently on a few other videos I've seen too. The one in the OP should show riot police rushing at a crowd, and one cop smashes a dude in the back of the head with his shield. The guy obviously gets knocked out instantly and another cop drags him away by the leg. .

Amazing, the Government screws you daily from birth to death but it's a Hockey game they chose to riot over..

What hope have we really got.

On the bright side, it's better than Montreal fans. They riot over a win/loss in the first round of the playoffs. Gotta love playoff hockey!

Right now I am embarrassed to be a canadian.... People get more upset over a children's game played by men, than they do when their rights are trampled.... Come on people....

First of all, I'd like to say great vid.

I really am saddened by this, this is so off-putting. I recently watched "Phase One" put out by Anonymous, and i felt inspired! Imagine, there ARE people dreaming of a new world, there are people working towards a revolution so that we can take back this land from our gov'm and make it the peoples once again. PLUS~ All over the world there has been effective protesting and revolutions, but... then there is this.

What a disappointment these people are. Fighting each other and destroying things, all b/c of entertainment gone wrong. This is exactly how the "distraction industry" wants you to react. How in hell are we ever going to get anything done with people like this? No wonder our gov'm works against us, I mean in our best interest. They are protecting sheeple like this from themselves.

What a disappointing waste of good resources. Firefighters called out to put fires out, for instance, could have been attending to actual emergencies. Wow I could keep ranting, but I'll stop for now.

So it pleases you that people would take to the streets and destroy everything in their path over a damn hockey game but not over something of real importance?

Wow... how proud you must be.

I wonder if these riots are completely to blame on that hockey game. Its unreal if that is true
