I think psychic can be a misleading term. I prefer “extra-sensory perception” (ESP) because it’s more descriptive. It literally means being
able to sense things in your environment beyond the use of your five senses. When you look at it that way, nearly everyone has ESP, because we can
all sense things beyond what our five senses can tell us.
For instance, we all have a sense of time. You can’t hear time, see it, smell it, taste it, but you know it’s there. You can use your five
senses to enhance your perception of time; seeing a clock or hearing a beat. You can use your brain to alter your perception of time; we do this
unintentionally all the time. That last hour of work seems to take forever. Time flies when your having fun. But many people can do this
intentionally. When I was “in the zone” playing chess, I felt like I could stretch time and envision 100 board positions in ten seconds. Of
course, other people could do it better.
Time is not the only thing we can sense beyond our five senses. But one thing the five senses have in common is a physical organ. I believe the
brain can function as a sensory organ, if it’s just used properly. Some animals have evolved blind, simply because eyesight would be useless to
them in their environment. If someone were blind from birth, they would have the sensory organs for sight, but never use them. But then if they had
surgery and could see, it would open up a whole new sense for them.
I seem to remember seeing something recently about squids having the ability to detect EM fields so they could sense fish around them. We know that
the brain, being an electro-chemical organ, generates an EM field. What if it could detect them as well? Someone might be able to detect another
person’s EM field, and guess what they are thinking. Or maybe they could project and EM field that influences another person’s field, and their
thinking. Remember the old movie Scanners?
That’s just one example of what may be possible. String Theory suggests that we exist in an 11-dimensional universe. Who knows what we may be
capable of sensing, or even altering, the way some people can alter their heartbeat at will.
