New bright comet discovered - stand back Elenin

Oho, we'd better prepare ourselves for a brand new series of cometary conspiracies, stand back Elenin, here comes a bright comet.

Minor Planet Center just issued a circular about new comet discovered by Pan-STARRS survey. Comet was designated as C/2011 L4 (PANSTARRS) and it may be a very bright comet on 2013! The orbit is not accurate, but it’s already clear that the new comet have closer perihelion than the comet C/2010 X1 (Elenin) – about 0.36 AU.

The comet could reach magnitude 1-2 in April 2013. By the rough forecast, C/2011 L4 can be the Great Comet, and reach 0 magnitude or brighter.

Dammit, I was hoping it would get here quickly. All that time, and just after December 2012 means that this place (and half the rest of the internet) is going to be almost unusable about then with all the killer doomsday death dwarf star alien spaceship threads.
Because you know, people wont have learnt a single thing in the wake of the (what will be then) distant memory of the comet Elenin farce.

I was under the influence Elenin was coming as close as .22 AU? But nice find mate. Clearly more comet conspiracies and dooms day events to be pondered upon when all other doom's days have passed.

Now if Elenin doesn't kill us all we have a backup comet to take care of the rest.

Quick, someone use part of its name to make an anagram! That's the only way we can be sure that this is a doomsday comet or not. Also, why have there been no interviews with Mr. Pan-STARRS? Clearly he doesn't exist and this is merely TPTB giving us clues. Wait, I think I've cracked the code. A pan is hot, so clearly there will be fire. Also STARRS is an obvious anagram for Start Taking Antiretrovirals Republic of Serbia. Clearly this comet will hit Serbia causing mass destruction and bringing with it some kind of retrovirus.

Well, I guess April of 2013 is close enough to 2012, and by then we can start a new thread about the next ELE. Will just have to come up with a better name for the next bright comet/asteroid/black hole/brown dwarf after that.... but that will be quite close to The Singularity then, won't it?

it was my fault, I was busy reading one of the Elenin threads, when I received notification of this comet, and I started a new thread without thinking in which area I was..... So, nobody threw it in here, but I guess if I really wanted it into space exploration, I wouldn't have poked the dragon with it. Maybe we can start a new, non-conspirist thread in the space exploration part?????
