He was young, for an older person. He was only 56.

LOS ANGELES - Funk legend Rick James, best known for the 1981 hit �Super Freak,� died Friday, apparently of natural causes, police said. James died at 9:45 a.m. at a residence near Universal City, said Police Department spokeswoman Esther Reyes.

�We learned of his death after responding to a radio call,� Reyes said.

This is truly a big loss. I personally enjoyed listening to his music, SPECIFICALLY "Superfreak". It brings a smile to my face whenever I hear it.

As this guy explains (You're Not Dave Chappelle; And You're Not Funny), you can't make a catch phrase so funny, yet so annoying when repeated by others, that the Universe doesn't hold a grudge.

R.I.P. Rick James... "Mr. Policeman" was my favorite of his songs...

I actually got to go see him in Oakland, Ca. in 1982, I was one of about 3 whiteboyz in the crowd... It was a GREAT SHOW.

The world is a lesser place today...

I love using catch phrases.....when someone mentions them they don't even have to act like the person who said it - all they have to do is say it....the moment of that movie, song, skit or whatever replays in my mind and I laugh b/c of its relevence to the situation at hand

Who cares if the person butchers it....it's the fact that they know what social commentary that catch phrase was reflecting upon and they bring it up at the proper moment to make it even more funny b/c it is happening right in front of you!

I'm all for originality in joking around myself, but if you can say something at the right moment and make people laugh, who cares - it's a joke - meant to relieve stress, not cause it....
