Secret Space Base Found on Google Mars Debunked

www.foxnews.com

A self-described "armchair astronaut" claims to have identified a human (or alien) base on Mars. David Martines noticed a mysterious rectangular structure that appears to be on the Red Planet's surface while trolling the planetary surface using Google Mars, a map program created from compiled satellite images of the planet.

"This is a video of something I discovered on Google Mars quite by accident," said Martines, the armchair astronaut, in a now-viral YouTube video. "I call it Bio Station Alpha, because I'm just assuming that something lives in it or has lived in it."

UPDATE

I Updated this to show that ATS Member Phage provided the case solving info on page 16 of the original thread that broke the story (Thanks Phage for the Heads Up): Link to Phage's post: www.abovetopsecret.com...

Is this really a surprise. Of course NASA is going to say it's explainable.

Just open your eyes & ears and all is good.

Cosmic Rays, that appear in a straight line and or box edge?

I am sure there is a reasonable tale behind this image but Cosmic Rays?

And, if this is true can they back it up with evidence?

They are really sand bagging this guy, dubbing him a "self proclaimed" armchair astronaut.

Discredit the source, and all you have is some loonie with a blurry photo

I don't know what that thing is and I can't say that I particularly care...but, I don't understand people's thinking that NASA would cover up something like this, if it were some sort of base or structure on a foreign planet, imagine the funding they would get! Good gravy, they'd be swimming in the funds...

Now go ahead and tell me how they are controlled and forced to cover up such by that four letter acronym which has become peoples' new God....

So people who use Google Mars are considered "armchair astronomers" now?

I guess that makes me an armchair astronomer too! I'll be sure to put that on my resume.

Isnt fox news motto, We report ,You decide.
Well,,,,,,,,,,,, i decided long ago, fox news and Nasa are full of %$#@.
So as the saying goes, Dont believe everything read.

I think how biased the news report is, tells more than what they've written.

I'll be adding it on mine too. I've already got 'Armchair Master Debater' on my CV...

I think that's what they said?

If this is the case, why aren't there more of them? Surely more than one cosmic ray goes by a telescope when it takes a picture.

A cosmic ray? Really? Debunked.......? Really? The level of stupid that article is on par with is astonishing. Followed quite closely by some of the comments there, such as;

"Mars is a dead planet, there is not water, no water no life". Cause yeah, we all know there absolutely no water on Mars am I right..........

Hmm, a cosmic ray happens to produce an image artifact that looks just like a military base, wow! Those pesky cosmic rays!

Sorry, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but after seening so many pathetic threads of late on ATS, well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i dont think quoting some threads backs up any arguement that you may have.

Did you even click the link to that thread to see what he was saying?

That Mars thread is ridiculous, it needs to be in hoax, it's already been explained what it is.

I love Mars, anyone who knows me on here knows that but I am not going to say something is proof when it obviously isn't. Where is the OP of that thread?? Also where is the video? Oh yeah its gone now.

I do think that yes things are kept from the pubic in regards to Mars' history but I don't think this is anything but a picture error like Phage points out if you were to click the link and see his reply!

Why do you repeatedly use a condescending tone toward me???????????? ( this started before my post to you)
YES................... I clicked on link and i dont agree with him.
I dont have to either.
You jump and star him , i wont. There are some great arguments for and against for what this is and isnt on that linked thread.
So thanks again.
I will make up my mind whether to agree or not.

Why do you take everything so personal?

My god people on here are too damn sensitive.

If you take it as condescending that is your problem not mine. Learn to take constructive criticism why don't you, it's nothing to get all uppity about.

I suppose then the NASA storyline about Cosmic Rays is B.S., or rather a wild guess?

At first I thought it may be some type of error caused during the transmission of the data from Mars to Earth, but it occurred to me that they might have some type of checksum algorithm that checks the data before and after the transmission to insure the data is unaltered.

My second thought was that it is a cosmic ray.... So I have to agree with NASA.

For those that don't understand; The sun emits high speed particles (cosmic rays) that are caught on satellite images all the time. If a cosmic ray hits directly into the lens of the camera, it will charge a single pixel of the CCD and will show up as bright white dot on the image. Most of the time the cosmic ray is so bright that it will fill up neighboring pixels too. If a cosmic ray hits the camera lens at an angle then it will hit multiple pixels in a line on the CCD, and it will show up as a white streak on the image. This happens a lot on satellite images that watch the sun.

Think of a laser pointer. If you shine a laser pointer directly at a wall you will see a laser dot. Like this:

However, if you shine that laser pointer at the wall at an angle it would create a line or streak. Like this:

So I think that a "cosmic ray hitting the camera at an angle" is a very logical conclusion. A lot more logical than a "Bio Station Alpha".
