The truth is out there: Defence Department loses UFO X-Files

It inspired Fairfax to seek access to the Australian version. But the response was more surprising than what the files might have contained the material has largely gone missing.

The department spent two months searching its offices for files requested by the Fairfax FoI application, which sought a ''schedule of records held by the Department of Defence ... which relate to unidentified flying objects''.

Mods: The title of this online article is wrong, so I included the one from the print version. It is definitely Australian and not US.

But late last month, the department's FOI assistant director, Natalie Carpenter, delivered a reply that seemed almost designed to set online chat rooms alight with conspiracy chatter.

Well here we go, I'm going to set it on fire. It' not like the smoking gun was in those files anyway. In the past a researcher was permitted access to the files in the defence headquarters in the early 80's to review the files, and his extensive investigations are posted on his website:

The Oz Files

All conspiracy aside, it's not like the files hadn't been publicly available before, so it's my guess that they were simply viewed as unimportant or a liability to cause embarressment and destroyed to make more room.

Don't forget how they highlight all of the important parts for you. Too bad they use black highliters to save money. Oh well their loss is CT's gain..

They sure as heck can track us down if we "lose" our tax forms, but if they lose some files......meh, we can't find it!?

As mentioned before, they probably are either ashes by now or shredded in a paper shredder.

...what kind of files will they lose next?

Governments losing files? They are not lost. I bet there is big underground warehouses pack full of the lost files. A thousand years may go by before anyone ever sees the files if even then but I think they had copies some where. If all the copies really are gone it is by no means a accident or mistake. If they lose files like this all the time it makes me wonder why bother keeping any files in the first place.

So lets see...

-Nasa "loses" the original space landing footage
-World trade debris gets "lost" by getting shipped over to China the next day
-Pentagon tapes get "lost" by denying their existance
-Bin Laden's body gets "lost" by a sea burial

I'm sure I've missed a bunch and now you've got this. You know if I was running a multi-trillion dollar company these kind of accounting flaws would have put me out of business a long time ago.

They should be sacked and forced to refund the two months they spent looking for the files.
