Natural News is nothing more than a tabloid. All their articles are nothing more than twisted logic to make people continue to read their stuff in order to make a living off their ads. That article you posted is a prime example. There is nothing in there but speculation and opinion twisted to look like fact and evidence. In FACT there is not one shread of evidence posted in that article. His evidence is an assumption of his own.

The author of this article did provide the information that has led him to draw his conclusions. I would presume the information upon which he based his conclusions would be easy enough to prove or disprove if one has the proper background and knowledge of these scientific issues. I presume you have this level of knowledge and that you are going to back up your own claim that this source is a "tabloid" and that the article contains nothing but "speculation and twisted logic," otherwise one would assume you would not have had the ability to recognize it as such.
If you cannot prove this article contains nothing but "speculation and twisted logic" then your post has the same lack of credibility you are claiming exists with the Natural News article.
Want to know where this e.coli really came from? The abuse of antibiotics in factory animal farms.
This particular e.coli variation is a member of the O104 strain, and O104 strains are almost never (normally) resistant to antibiotics. In order for them to acquire this resistance, they must be repeatedly exposed to antibiotics in order to provide the "mutation pressure" that nudges them toward complete drug immunity.
Treatment
The body usually rids itself of harmful E. coli O104:H21 on its own within 5 to 10 days. Antibiotics should not be used, and neither should antidiarrheal agents such as loperamide.[2]
