Magnetosphere And SOHO Today 04 JUN 11

Greetings Everyone:

I just wanted every one on here to be aware of the sun's recent activity today. Looks like two CME's and the magnetosphere is really kicking already. As far as I know a CME can take 3 to 4 days to get here. This first one looks like it got here in 12 hours, not 3 days. If I am mistaken I stand corrected.

The geomagnetic activity observed today was the result of a CME which occurred on June 1.

Thank you for conformation on this. I did go back to 31 MAY 11 to review the SOHO movie theater (in LASCO 3) and found little to indicate a CME directed at the Earth. However I did not view Stereo Ahead as you have shown. Thank You for your expertise in this matter. I will be more aware of this factor in the future.

As for yesterdays CME's will they miss the Earth? If not, then they should be evident on the 7th of June. I read that sometimes the Earth is effected even when not directed at us. Science has shown they can be redirected by Solar Wind.

As for this being rare I am not sure. I personally have not seen two in one day in the last 3 years, however that doesn't mean it has not happened before.
