Hoever, one is a repainted M113, and the tracked artillery piece is a dead ringer for an M109..... And one is a Soviet BTR

Dont judge a book by its cover. Without knowing what types of fire control systems those tanks use our what optics they use and a large list of other stats you cant really draw any conclustion on what these things are like.

Problem is many westerners underestimating Iran. Last week I have posted some pictures of Iranian made UAVs and some idiot believe that could make one of these with some plastics.

Two years ago Iran finished building its first passenger airplane. Iran produces more than one million cars per year and soon will start building container career ships.

As for Zolfaghar 3 goes, it has autoloader, laser target finder, much ticker armor than Zolfaghar 2, its engine has much more horse power than Zolfaghar 2, I believe its 125 mm, night vision targeting system

Nice tanks, but their old. Major improvements have been made since then.
Irans ranked #17 in terms of Military Manpower - Fit for Military Service Ranking according to www.allyoucanread.com...

see www.islamicdigest.org... for more information on the iranian millitary.

On a more important note Iran takes on Bahrain today for third place in the www.asiancup2004.com

Not bad. It looks a bit outdated though. Not something your going to fight the US with but it could still be used for defensive purposes I supose. That or Iran could easily use these on their neighbors. Looks like these are from the eighties or early ninties.

They can look as pretty as they want, but the real deal is in the electronics... In the desert, at night, how well are they going to see the enemy...especially without air support, recon satellites, etc. Meanwhile, we've got stealth drones, etc. letting us know EXACTLY where they all are, and it's like shooting fish in a barrel...

Somehow, I'm not too worried about US/Iran tank battles, hehe...

The real thing preventing an Iranian invasion, is the same thing plaguing us in Iraq... It's one thing to eliminate a country's defenses, and take out the leadership. This would be a fairly easy thing to do, yes even in Iran. The real problem is in OCCUPATION as this would require manpower we simply don't have, to fight the constant insurgents and foreign terrorists who would sweep in to fight the "infidels"....

nobody in the middle east can stand up to the military might of the west, but we can't occupy them properly after the war because the people have completely different idealogy and belief system to us

we need to improve our occupying skills in a war zone without shooting civilians

Does it have Thermal Imaging. Night vision is about as useful as a pair of X-ray specs from a box of Cap'n Crunch.

I dont understand why they just dont buy Soviet tanks. The newer T series tanks are quite good Main Battle Tanks the russians have had alot more experience making tanks and Im sure they would sell to Iran.

Who's saying anything about the US attacking the middle east. After repeated failed attempts in both Afghanistan and Iraq, $38 trillion deficit, and a large number of unreported casualties: The US isn't going to war for a while. Another war could cripple the economy and the space program.

Night Vision is very useful. Nightfighting is a huge advantage and its only possible through nightvision. One of the many reasons we won the first gulf war was because we had nightvision so we could attack at night but they couldn't. Oh yes and if Bush gets reelected the world can go to hell as far as he cares. He's a loose cannon. We know Iran has a nuclear program so most likely we'll be looking at war.

Compared to Thermal imagers Night vision is quite useless. The visual range that a thermal image can detect a target a tank would be looking for far exceeds that of Night vision and to see your enemy first is very important. The Iraqie tanks in the first Gulf War had night vision and it didnt do them any good because the M1A1s would see thwm first. Night vision can also be obscured by stuff such as sands storms, weather, smoke ect...

Any battle tank that is worth its salt use Thermal imaging

Any modern tank should have Thermal Imaging and heat seeking and other stuff otherwise it would just be a iron box ready to get blown up. I mean cmom when Iran is making stealth fighter dont you think it can make a decent tank?

Soviet offered to sell their T-92s to Iran last year but Iran refused. I am guessing Zolfaghar 4 would be as good as T92s thats why they refused.
