How about ATS create a nice dark corner for all the cop haters to lurk?

I have been on ATS for a few years now and it seems that in the past few months the number of hate threads against law enforcement has sky rocketed.

I think it is in large due to a handful of posters that seem to have made it a personal agenda. It is very discouraging to see so much of this hate and anger on ATS. It seems all one has to do is post ANY thread that seems derogatory in any way against law and a bunch of morons jump on board to star and flag them.

While I like the diversity of ATS and a good conversation/debate, most of these threads are nothing more than calling for the death of all police. There is no intelligent discussion, because they don't want to discuss anything they just want to spread the hate.

I have also been very discouraged to see a huge lack on the part of the mods to control some of these 'gangs'. What ever happened to the T&C regarding these type of hate posts?

To anyone wanting to jump on this thread to bash cops: don't. I don't want to hear it right now. That isn't what this thread is for. It's MY rant against the decline in quality of posts here on ATS and a request to tuck these types of hate threads to a different level....like below top secret. It is also a request to the administrators and mods of this website to enforce the T&C in this regards and not to let this site deteriorate.

*steps off soap box*

I think there has been a rise in police brutality and officers of many kind abusing power. With that said, I would never call for the death of all officers or anything of the sort. There are always bad apples, who make the rest look bad, but i know many officers, and love them. I would never think all were bad. S and F

Dunno bout a cop hate forum but what about a police state forum?
cop hate would prolly draw too much ire from the site sponsors, and or admin.

If it were merely members making up stories or reciting anecdotal evidence, I'd agree.

But in these cases it is merely reflecting an existing story.

So no.

Disagree.

I really don't think there has been an increase in use of force. There has been an increase of the media (and internet sites) recording, discussing, hyping up and distorting.

One of the problems with the whole "recorded it on a phone!" is that with most of them, you are only seeing part of it. Most likely the part they (the one gaining from it) want you to see. There is so much that goes on prior to an arrest that dictates the outcome, that to show only part of the encounter is very, very misleading.

Are all cops angels? Of course not. I am sure there are those that abuse their positions, just like any job that is a position of power. For the most part though, they are good people with high standards. Attitude; yes. You have to in order to do that godforsaken, unthankful job.

To discuss some of these reports and videos would be fine. I very much support free speech is transparency....however, it seems most of the threads lately are only about hate. Just a bunch of members calling for anarchy and killing of the police with complete disregard to the actual truth (and T&C)

I am getting sick of it. I am to the point now where I am getting embaressed to open ATS with anyone else around because of the brainless hatred. I personally don't think this type of behavior should be allowed. It wasn't in the past.

Well I personally don't want any of them to die...Unfortunately our government is stepping over the line... they have repeatedly ignored basic freedoms afforded to us by the constitution... and they are using their militarized police force to do their dirtywork... thus, there are more complaints against cops abusing their authority... there is also a lack of prosecution against cops who step over the line.... and yes I'm sure people have let their emotion get the best of them at times,,, the situation is certainly enough to make one angry,,,

Hmmm....really? You know all of this first hand, do you?

First of all, your local police are certainly not the federal government. It seems that people are getting them confused. I am very much against Obama and what is happening to our country. It is falling apart. Do not confuse this with your local law enforcement. They are your neighbors, friends, family members. They pay their taxes and go to work for a living to support their families the same as anyone else. One difference might be that they put their life at risk every day in order to protect their friends, community and family. Most police live in the city that they serve. Yes. I said serve. They are CIVIL servants.

You think they 'get off' easy? That they don't have to answer to the same laws as the rest of us? Well, it's obvious you must not know anyone in law enforcement then. They are held to much higher standards. Being a police officer is one of the few jobs out there that you can instantly loose at a drop of the hat for what some would consider trivial offenses.

The general public is getting a very skewered impression of the police. It is this type of mindless, herd mentality of us against them that hurts our society rather than help it.

Yes I do know this first hand... my little brother is a cop.... my wife is a parole officer...

the fact of the matter is that laws are changing... not only do these changes weaken constitutional freedoms... they make cops and citizens less safe... it is also driving more of a rift between police and the general public...

local police forces are being given funds by the federal government to basically militarize...

police forces are attracting narcissistic power freaks, because they are indeed being given more power...

many cops don't agree with and don't like the changes any more than a lot of us citizens...

Wow...I don't what country or state you are from, but here in Washington it is just the opposite.

It is getting harder and harder for the police to do their job of enforcing the law because of the bleeding hearts wanting to protect the rights of the criminals. It is also getting more dangerous. We have had an incredible increase of on-the-job deaths, including a friend of mine a couple of years ago.

So when I read all these hateful comments and call to arms against the police, I take it personally. It isn't a faceless institution they are calling for the death of. They are husbands, wives, fathers, mothers and friends. They are good people that care and are only wanting to serve their community and keep it safe. My friend was killed by a man who was mentally ill that she had helped before. She personally responded because she knew him and the family and wanted to help. She was a GOOD woman. He shot her in the head. He also killed five other people that day and wounded others. I still cry for her. She shouldnt' have died that way. No one should.

No one should WANT anyone to die that way. The ones instigating it and promoting are the sick ones, not the cops.

I must agree with you here. People want to blame others for their own situations though, you know this...someone has to be the badguy other than us!

I have one friend who is a police officer. I would hate to see anything happen to him. I had a friend who grew up to be a Sherrif's Deputy, but he was killed in the line of duty by a meth-addict in Central Texas. I absolutely realize that there are real people beneath those badges with families and loved ones. I would not call for the death of police officers, nor would I call for violence against them, however, they are prepared and equipped and trained to bring almost every form of violence against anybody that is deemed a threat. I do call for people to be prepared to defend themselves against unwarranted aggression. It is very troubling that the police are being used as a tool. All I ask is this. Can you prove who the good guy is? A police officer should be human before he is anything else. He should ask himself if he agrees with the orders requested of him. He should ask himself if he is doing the right thing. If an officer fails to do these simple things before carrying out his orders, and subsequently causes harm to an innocent person, that officer should be held accountable. Not a paid vacation from work, but prison. On top of that, I honestly believe that we should build a prison just for police officers so that they are not subject to especially harsh treatment by inmates that hate them with a passion. Just my thoughts on the subject. An interesting post by the OP to say the least. S+F to you.

I agree with you. I want to stress though, at least on the small departments that I am familiar with, the only 'orders' they are following are the word of the law, put in place to do nothing more than protect the public.

The only attitude I have ever encountered in regards to the "us against them"....the 'us' are the police and the general public they are sworn to serve. The 'them' are the people that chose to break the laws and put said public at risk.

Hey, thanks for bringing such a great example to this thread. That is exactly one of the mindless OPs I was referring to.

This thread is not for discussing any specific story....start another one if you want your own.

But the one you reference is a perfect example of taking a stupid set-up and playing right into it.

For anyone that hasn't already looked it, you should. Read some of the things posted there. Sick.
