there was nothing deep or intellectual about any of those series.

the biggest message out of bsg was all those lazy people who became complacent and did not think very much of their military all ran to them to save their butts.

sounds familiar to me.

No deep or intellectual message about any of the series? do you even bother looking past the surface?

Consider the multitude of subjects they touched on? did you even watch them? I am just sitting here confused as to how you could even say that without it being taken as simply a joke. like saying shakespear was just a slapstick comedy writer or the bible was just a book about a ghost.

ok, I digress...how about this

Name for me one series, or movie, that meets with your acknowledgement of heavy layered messaging and intellectualism wrapped up in the plotline. Such media should be 1) entertaining 2) understood on some level by most audiences, and 3) timeless.

So for instance, braveheart wouldn't meet the qualifications considering it is focused mostly on the simple message of "fight tyrrany"...there was no real hidden depth beyond that though, and it was focused on warfare almost exclusively....(still a damn good movie though)

Hedonistic Baltar was used by his flaw (chasing anything in a skirt). it was this that directly resulted in the anniliation of the worlds. the pushing forward of his pleasure and desires that doomed the entire world.

It was only when he managed to overcome these crippling aspects when things started to improve. Baltar, though seeming the most superficial, was the catalist and the story is arguably not the story of the 12 colonys at all, but the story of Baltar and his struggles of the flesh.

I could go on about how well written he was underneath the superficial character quirks. hint is to look at the whole development of the character verses just the face value (anything at face value seems shallow)

her sexual preference had little to do with anything...her rigid command had little to do with anything..the big flaw is her assuming the poise of a vengence warlord through rank decisions. the inability to be flexible in a situation, and the lesson about vengence. Her vice (chasing the white whale...vengence) was her fall...which was close to adama's also (and with similar decision points at the end of the series, but lesson learned)

a XO whom was in a deep seeded denial of his nature. You could draw parallels of him and someone whom is gay and rejecting his nature actually. hiding behind illusions and superficial issues in order to forget or push deeper back your true nature. losing part of yourself in the process the more you try...

Hey, she was an action hero at the end of the day. but, I think if Caprica continued, it would have shown at the end that the original cylon, zoe, was in fact starbuck.
They started developing similar traits, similar motivations (truth, fighting, home)...and though the series never got a chance to even start explaining this, what is clear is that there is a single figure that was "special" in BSG (starbuck) and a single figure that is special in caprica (Zoe). the end of starbuck was simply a "uploading" virtual event...and the only one poised to do such a thing would have been the original zoe...

aka, pandora herself fighting to close pandora's box

The simple fact that you can discuss these things means that the story itself (bsg, caprica) had incredible depth beyond just...gunfights and boobs...but if all you got out of it was just gunfights and boobs, then chances are, your not seeing the actual story behind the glitter and explosions

Your just not trying. if you fail to give credit where credit is due, how will you know when something truely good comes along to begin with? What about the first matrix? (arguably a conservative agenda movie)

sorry man your free to love those shows i for one will never think they amounted to much.

braveheart and matrix were what i consider watchable and both still had political undertones everything has them.


i have a low opinion of anything that comes out of hollywood nothing will change that.

I guess it would be boring to overgrown children. Conservative radio gets more attention than liberal radio because conservatives typically don't have the same mindset as liberals who need cheesy humor, flashy visuals ect. to hold their attention for more than a few minutes.

I find it kind of ironic and funny that people claim Hollywood has a "Liberal/progressive" agenda because it's much more apparent (to me at least) that they have a "greedy Capitalist" agenda.

Look at all the crappy remakes that shouldn't be made, endless sequels and "play it safe" approach to almost every movie made these days.

And most of these movies are action, horror or comedies that are devoid of any sort of political message.

If there is a "Liberal/Progressive" agenda in Hollywood these days it's so small and insignificant that it hardly bares discussion, IMO. Money and greed is their main agenda.

And even if there is one, so what? It's their money, they can do what they want with it.

This WAAAAAAAAY back to a certain "new" tv channel and it's super Lib agenda!

Their first shows that made them big was In Living Color, Simpsons, Married with Children.

Well that would be FOX owned by a certain....well you see where I am going with this.

It's called catering to an audience, Americans (in general) lean that way....deal with it.
