Yes.

...even then, you are making a HUGE assumption that the kite is being flown from within the stadium and not outside the stadium. And... why are you making the assumption the kite flier didn't run? Are you just making up information and using it for an argument??

I don't understand the kite argument. You have people saying that it couldn't have been kites because of this or that and then you have people saying they could because of this or that.

My simple argument is that, yes, they could be kites. Just like they could be birds, planes, blimps, clouds, frizbees, poo flung from the local monkey cage, etc. But... they do not look like any of those things. I just don't see how they look like rotor kites at all. I'd be more inclined to believe they were some anomaly in the film itself.

I just watched the clips.

My FIRST instinct was ROTOR KITES.

My razor is sharper than your razor.

Simon Harbord had this to say about UFO kites... Baffling thing flashing in the sky, put a mini torch on the line just below shining up at it in the dark, and wait for the UFO reports to pile in. The rotating mylar sail is too wierd to be a kite.

Has anyone brought up the point that you need to run with a kite to get it into the air? I dunno about you but i didnt see much running room in that place. Props to anyone who can fly a kite higher then an arena.

You cannot be serious?

First, you do NOT have to run to launch a kite if the wind is strong enough and the kite is light enough but who's to say the flyer/s didn't run to launch them.
Second..."in that place"? What makes you think the origin of these kites was inside the arena? I think the flyer/s were outside.
Third, saying a kite could not be flown higher than the arena is just plain naive. How long is a piece of string?
You assume these kites were launched and flown inside the arena which based on what?

Ever acyually flown a kite?

Yeah sure, it's a kite. Just some kid taking a Sunday stroll, flying his kite high above a stadium during a football game and dodging automobiles leaving the stadium parking lot.

Why is everyone in the stadium oblivious to these things? Were they created by video CGI? If not, it looks like some image being projected in the sky. Early hologram test maybe?

yup, they do wobble. you'd mistake them for a kite. I've seen it. Looked unstable after being stationary & bright

One could be surprised just how far one can get with a kite.

Limiting factors?

  • Available wind
  • Size of kite
  • Strength of kite line
  • Density of atmosphere

Technically, if there's enough wind, you have a big enough kite (the weight of the kite line starts to add up after a while), a strong enough kite line, you can pretty much fly a kite to the upper edge of the stratosphere because of the last limitation.

As a kid, I've experimented adding kite-line (even though it's likely not legal) and the size of my kite became a limiting factor. I learned that it wouldn't keep going up. (But it had to be about 1500ft up. It was a dot.) After a certain point, the kite line starts becoming a catenary and starts trailing out sideways because the kite didn't have enough lift to pull much more on the line anchoring it. A bigger kite with more lift means more altitude, and after a certain point of increased lift - you need a stronger line. It's quite a balancing act, but something an engineer could easily work out.

Anyhow, whoever was flying the kite could have been a few blocks upwind of the stadium. Once the line starts forming that catenary curve, you could be way outside of the parking lot and still trail the kite into a position visible from with a stadium. It's kind of neat how it works that way.

As for two kites that close, iirc it's called stacking. For a rotor kite you'd just put a trailing yoke like the leading yoke and attach it to the lead of the next kite in the series.

I'm sure somebody with enough hobby money or time could make a vid for us on youtube to show the two things I've just mentioned. (Catenary effect and kite-stacking.)

As much as I would like to believe that I found the holy grail of alien UFO's, I have not. I wanted to give my observations some time to develop. You need definative proof to claim one way or another. All of you out there that claimed kite, had no definitive proof. Just pictures of various kites that were similar. All of those that claimed UFO, also had no definitive proof.

It is now my opinion that what we had were manmade UFO's that are now identified. I can imagine when looking at something like this, you can always see "faces in the clouds". So it is easy to say, those are not kites, because of one thing or another. Same goes for alien made UFO's.

Very late last night, and right before bed, I had a major revelation. I found that I could manipulate a few things in the original DVD frames to get definate outlines. Folks we have two different types of synchonous spinning kites. I will eventually make a video of my terrible quality pics. But even in those, it is very obvious what you are looking at. If someone could guide me in acquiring good quality stills from .vob files without conversion, I would be happy to step my work up a notch. But the proof is in the original files, and not the converted files.

But look at what we still have. It appears that a large number of Pittsburghers that were around at that time, were aware of this. I would say, 1 out of 2-3 people I asked were aware. They all lived for over 30 years with the impression that 3 Rivers stadium was visited by UFO's. They will now get to see and know the truth themselves. Also, we got to see how the announcers reacted to tthis event. I found it extremely interesting, and still do. An exciting little bit of history.

Thank you all for your time, and all the wonderful stars and flags. A lot of you saw this for what it really is. An opportunity to take a past event, and examine it closely to find the truth. And a chance to experience a "sighting" first hand. Even if it didn't end up the way we wished it had.

As a fellow Pittsburgher I had to check out the thread, a nice one at that

As being only 21 I was not around to remember this, however maybe my parents or grandparents. The objects do look like some sort of kite, maybe its the camera but they look too small to be a space ship, however with how they do look it reminds me of the "Wheel within a Wheel" that Ezekiel stated in the Bible. Very interesting and great find!

What is this still pic? I have a much sharper image of this on my TV this very second. Actually it is quite perfect compared to this. I just can't capture it right with my camera.

Ok I just captured it with my quick cam. One moment!

Hit the print screen button, usually on the upper right of the keyboard. Then go to paint and paste it there.
Just make sure to delete anything in the picture you don't want on the net before saving it.

I can't agree with the rotor kite theory based on the colors, the height, the clarity, the lack of string, I don't know - I'm not an expert but they didn't look anything like the kite examples given imho
nice work! genuinely unidentified to me
