Fuel contamination 'a serious incident'
Airport, Aviation Authority sources awaiting lab results of mysterious substance which led to grounding of dozens of flights Thursday
One of the passengers who was stranded in New York for hours Thursday night and is now awaiting a connection flight from Europe is the former head of the Civil Aviation Authority, pilot and attorney Neri Yarkoni. Talking to Ynet he said that this was a "serious and abnormal incident of international proportions of which no incident that I recall can equal."
According to Yarkoni, "only after the reason for the contamination is discovered will it be possible to know what brought it on and was it possible to have avoided it, including the legal consequences over the huge damages in addition to personal conclusions."
He asked to add "with caution" that "if anyone in a position of authority knew anything about the contamination and remained silent, this incident is criminal."
(Washington, August 5, 2010) -- The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress today of a possible Foreign Military Sale to Israel of unleaded gasoline, JP-8 aviation fuel and diesel fuel for an estimated cost of $2 billion. The Government of Israel has requested a possible sale of 60,000,000 gallons of unleaded gasoline, 284,000,000 gallons of JP-8 aviation jet fuel, and 100,000,000 gallons of diesel fuel. The estimated cost is $2 billion.

The initial assumption, he continued, "Was that maybe the fueling line was contaminated. Now it is believed that the fuel may have been contaminated at the refinery."
Jet fuel provider Paz Aviation Assets said a German laboratory used by the United States military has refused to test the fuel sample and the contaminating substance has not been pinpointed yet.
The US military has not specified the reason for the refusal and no Israeli lab has been able to determine the contaminant's molecular structure.
Pas said that, following the rejection, the Infrastructure Ministry has been asked to discuss the situation with the laboratory and find a way out.
This was not a normal bacterial or mould contamination

The "mysterious substance" is mold and bacteria.
The fuel was purchased from Paz Oil Company, an Israeli company which does its own refining.
JP8 is military fuel.
Contaminated fuel

Quite simple.
Your source articles are dated before the investigation was done.

i presume by your tone that being dominated by the united states is to be preferred than russia , japan, germany etc?
Look at the language used by the Israelis in this incident
"serious and abnormal incident of international proportions of which no incident that I recall can equal."
The fungi and bacteria that contaminate fuel are common so given that Israeli laboritories were unable to identify the molecular structure of the substance in the fuel suggests there is not a normal event.
Furthermore, the fact that the US military laboratory did not want to test the substance is very bizzarre given that it is the US Dept of Defence that regulates, controls and profits from aviation fuel.
IAA officials said on Monday that the mysterious substance discovered in the fuel was a combination of mold and bacteria, though they admitted that they did not know what led to its formation in the storage tanks or fuel lines.
