It is quite obvious a majority of citizens oppose the recent extension of the Patriot Act, as well as the Indiana Supreme Court ruling on unlawful entry. Rarely if ever has there been a groundswell of agreement across political and ideological grounds. Simply put, Americans value freedom and we value the 4th Amendment.
So what is there to do? I am not an advocate of violence, nor do I think mass DC protests accomplish much, and our election process frankly is hampered by our elected leaders often times ignoring both the will of the people as well as the Constitution. However there is bulletproof mechanism in place to make the peoples voices heard....
A Constitutional Amendment. Article 5 of the US Constitution is the mechanism for change that our founding fathers wisely inserted into the document to make sure the voice of the people is heard. For those unfamiliar with the specifics: en.wikipedia.org...
Ironically what I am proposing is an Amendment that assures the sacrosanct nature of the 4th Amendment. The wording could be quite simple:
"No branch of government nor government agency on any level, has the right to allow the conduct of unreasonable or warrantless searches or seizures. All authority for searches or seizures of any type or means, is to be derived strictly in accordance with the 4th Amendment of the Constitution of these United States of America."
(I'm sure some legal scholar can come up with more appropriate wording).
The passing of such will assure that we maintain the rights that we American citizens hold near and dear to our hearts. Let's take back our rights and show the world the the United States of America was and is again truly the greatest freedom loving nation in history.

I think the people are starting to figure out how to go about getting results. The last few protests in America, some succeeding and some failing, but we are probing the defenses to see what happens. As you mentioned mass protests are not working, completely ignored. The only way to go about this is at the local level and getting to the people that we can reach. It is a matter of getting our own homes cleaned up first.

What we do on a local level ripples upward to the fed level and when these protests happen and we can start undoing the things we all have contempt for. By retaking our powers on the local level and jerking a knot in the asses of our employees that we vote for to do our bidding, we can spread it to the state levels. When we can make our local and states level hold some accountability to their own constituents, the rest will fall into place on the federal level.

We do not need to create more laws at the moment, there are laws we need to start getting repealed. Play their own game against them, they have divided and conquered us on one level, but we can do the same to them by getting our local communities back under our control. This is how we divide them.Sun Tzu's philosophies would translate to the political world and work well here.

Sounds good but according to the link two thirds of congress must approve it or two thirds of the states. If I am reading it correctly they must approve it before it can be called to convention.

Right, (to both above posts), but the process I suggest works precisely by true local grass roots support which then leads to state legislatures for the 2/3rds of state support.
