So this is in a National Forest. There are a few house but very spread and remote throughout. I have never seen "natural" formations like this before. I'm thinking of going exploring tomorrow. Any suggestions on what I should look for? I'll make sure to post some pictures back on the forum of the area once I get back.

Above everything else though.......What is this? Why would something like this be in a National preserve? I know there were a lot of Native Americans in the area. I know this couldn't be an old home of some kind? Any ideas? The light colored roads are mostly made of sand and some gravel which give it that brown color.

The light green color vs the darker color means the light green is clear of trees and has some green grass growing. The darker surrounding it is mature trees. So obviously the area was cleared out and you can see the "driveway" coming in from the road.

Cool. Maybe an ancient burial ground? Maybe nada con salsa?

I would guess that it is possible that deer or other animals could have beaten paths in that area. I have seen large areas of brush flattened in huge circles before because of deer, and also know that they will always use the same routes, causing trails from many directions.

Just a guess though.

All kinds of activity happens in a national forest. Rangers, drilling companies, etc. Those could be man-made or animal. You should go check it out!

An entrance to the hollow earth.
just don't let the old ones eat your soul.

Kidding aside
I would be careful out there for all you know it could be someones woodland meth lab.
I hope you let some friends know what you plan to do.
Be careful.
I can't wait to see what you find out.

The animal track idea crossed my mind.

1. Why is there what appears to be a driveway. Trees cut to the road.
2. The area has been clear cut of trees.
3. Why do they all lead to what seems to be one single point?

Maybe it's some kinda Mecca. Maybe that black stone in the middle of the array is a meteorite, (Benben? Then there would be circlular paths around the ouside. Never mind))

It's weird how all the paths lead to a center point. Go explore! I would, and let us know what you find. Looking forward to it!

Nice find S&F!

PS Bring a metal detector.....

Don't forget to look for Bigfoot, those paths look deliberate!

Be sure and watch for scat! I would hate to run into a bear out there.

Yeah, that was the first thing that I thought of. A possible cave or old mine which is now a cave to bears/wolves/etc.

If the black spot is a watering hole then they are probably deer tracks. Interesting from above non the less.

a natural salt lick would draw animals in from a wide area also.

Well time will tell. I'm going to try going late this afternoon. I believe what everyone is thinking are water holes are actually just trees casting a shadow. I would be very surprised to find standing water there.

Any tips on what I should be looking when I go?

Interesting find. TY for posting photos. Question here. Does the national forest where this is located, have a history of American Indians living in the region? It looks a little like some photos I've seen of medicine prayer wheels carved into the earth, by various tribes in the past. If this were the case, it would be considered extremely sacred ground. Medicine Wheels are often located on high points.

I think it's highly unlikely that animal tracks would all converge towards a centre point even if there was a feeding station there. My guess would be some ancient landscaping by native Americans for ritual or burial. If you go though take a camera, compass and a big strong friend!

I'd bet good money they are nothing more than logging/utility roads.

My guess is that it's possibly a old homestead. Possibly an old farm. Probably was there before the park and was bought out when they put in the park. The black spots look interesting. Old buildings? Trees? The one in the center could be an old house.

Captain had it right!

It was nothing more than logging roads. After driving my Subaru 1 hour through the mud, puddles, ups and downs I came to a logging site. Seems they use the center point to drag all the logs back to.

Can't blame me for keeping a outlook! Thanks for all responses.

On a second note. They log everywhere in those woods and that is 100% unique compares to the rest.
