What's the deal with all this what are they trying to desensitize us to?

They are entertaining?

True Blood is an awesome show! Check it out,

Not everything is a conspiracy. Then again in True Blood all of the vampires come out of the coffin and try to get alng with everyone else once an artificial blood substitute is discovere, so they get jobs working night shifts and try to get equal civil rights.

So you could say they are preparing us for that if my answer isn't good enough lol.

Because they are enteraining as the poster above me said but I feel as though they ruin the idea of a vampire, what I see in movies is complete tripe apart from a few exceptions like Dracula 2000...

If you are interested that type of thing I recommend reading books instead of the movies, nothing compares to them.

Nothing, it's just about making money. Vampires + Werewolves + a bunch of over sexed little girls = big profit

Not everything is a conspiracy. Maybe there are so many because they are popular? Personally I hate them but I appear to be in the minority.

Two words: Teenage girls.

They're the biggest target audience, they spent a lot of money in anything with a pretty face on it. Currently, those faces happen to be of people who play vampires. Not long ago it was Justin Bieber, now it's blood sucking creatures

True Blood is an amazing show.

But, it's the same thing that always happens in pop culture. Someone presents a new idea (in this case limitless different twists to vampires and the rules they must live by), it catches on, and then everyone and their mother makes their own spin off of it.
They are also targeting the young teen/young adult audience, which increases their popularity. Generally, this demographic will attach its fangs into something, and then everyone in their high school will be wearing
"Team Edward" t-shirts.
Same thing is happening with zombie movies, especially zombie/comedy movies. Whatever people like, pop culture will regurgitate it until everyone's sick of it and wants to scream.

Everybody loves rape apparently.

The vampire is essentially a safe-rape fantasy with no consequences.

Anytime somebody says something like "True Blood is awesome!" all I can think about is that persons fascination with rape fantasy or personal inadequacies that lead one to be drawn to violent power fiction.

Vampires basically embody assault and rape.

There's a reason vampire hunters are always part vampire. Just like cops are all part criminal.

They aren’t trying to desensitizes to anything. What’s happening is quite simple;

Person (A) makes movie (1) about vampires
Movie(1) becomes popular
Person (b) sees the popularity of movie (1)
Person (b) decides to make a movie (2) about vampires, hoping it will become popular.
Movie (2) capitalizes on the success of movie (1)
Person (c) sees the popularity of movies (1) and (2)
Etc…

Vampires usually are given the three qualities in movies or tv shows that "sell" ie make the studios money. They are: sex, mystery, and violence.

My opinion is that if its something the studios will make money off of, they will do it no matter what. If you want to be desensitized to any of that without watching vampires....just watch the 6 o'clock news.

Trends. Popular shows get copied and regurgitated back into the populace in an alternate form. Elements from other genre shows get added. It is the nature of the entertainment industry to constantly reinvent the wheel, just with bigger and better gadgets each time. Sometimes it works out and other times it fails.

Sorry buddy, you couldn't be further from the truth. The two main characters of the show have a consenting adult relationship, as well as the main characters brother with a vampire.

In fact most of the violence portrayed seems to be against.... Vampires! Of course this isn't always the case, like when Bill was forced to bite an innocent girl and turn her into a vampire.

Off the top of my head I can't think about no one getting raped in True Blood at least, and I haven't seen twilight but it is aimed at teenage girls so it would be safe to say that there is no rape in there, either. So where do you base your theory on?

They are all essentially love story soap operas and crime fiction... Like trafficking vampire blood as a drug, overthrowing the vampire king of luisiana... Stuff like that.

Yes, they're preparing us for disclosure.

Seriously though, a couple of months back I found a web page that listed books, movies etc, throughout the last few decades and came to the conclusion that there was actually more vampire media around in the 1980's.

Something is successful and makes money.

Everyone copies it.

Doesn't matter what the subject is.

The biting of the neck. The whole "vampire seduction" thing.

It's all representative of rape.

Not the kind of rape most of us associate with the term. But the kind of wanted-rape that floods paperback romance novels covered by highland warlords and innocent duchesses that sell millions every year. And of course Japanese porn.

Nice-rape. If there is such a thing.

The vampire as a metaphor for rape is an old idea.

Part of the recent resurgence in popularity has been attributed to the conflict of female (young especially) over sexualization with societys constant push to "protect" them. No doubt fostered by internet access in every kids room.

Of course none of this is 100% and I wouldnt accuse you of having some rape fetish. I dont know anything about you. But nonetheless the vampire as rape is a valid metaphor for the sake of discussion.

Oh, they are preparing us for the same old I'm sure. Aliens, Illuminatis, Bigfoots, GMO Foods, Chemtrails. It's all connected, you know.

Just joking. I don't think it means anything. Little known fact: they make movies to make money. So the content of their movies is based on things that are popular. Just like comic book movies got huge recently. They made a few of them, people really liked them, so they made a bunch more. If people would stop liking these things, they would stop making movies about them. We as consumers actually have more power than we think. If nobody buys a product, they are going to stop making that product. Regardless of what the Illuminati tells them to do.

Is it rape when they are given permission or trade their blood to drug dealers in exchange for letting them bite them? I mean... You can analyze it if you want and it isnt always consentual but it's how they eat and it is a vampire show, so you have to have some biting.

In the case of true blood at least vampires have sex, too.... if they want to rape someone then they would show it. It's HBO. I see what you are saying, I just disagree, especially about your comment about the fans of the show fantasizing about rape and having inadequacies. That is unfounded.

Regardless, back to the original topic, it is just entertainment (even if it is symbolic of soft core rape for the sake of argument)

Sure it is.

I didnt mean to imply that there was anything inherently wrong with the fantasy. People all over have their likes and dislikes and as long as all parties involved are consenting to the role play or whatever it's fine by me and should be fine by anyone else.

I was just bringing up the metaphor for discussions sake as an option to take into account when considering the pervasiveness of the theme in popular culture.

There is a part to it that has to do with the fact that it's a fad, but at the same time the people who approve these movies for production they must be running with a lot of vampire movies for a reason, like opening us up to the idea of spiritual beings or witchcraft which is nothing bad in. My opinion, there's something to this.
